Iowa and Illinois headline the Friday college basketball action, in a match-up between two high-scoring top-25 teams. It's one of three games on the DraftKings' slate tonight, as their main contest is the $15 Pull Up Jumper with a top prize of $2k and a 6 p.m. EST start time.
Targets
Jahmir Young, G, Charlotte ($7,500 DK)
Young has developed into one of the best mid-major players in the country during his breakthrough sophomore season. He's been a workhorse for Charlotte, having played at least 37 minutes in all but one of the team's last eight games and has a team-high 27.7 percent usage rate. It's no surprise that he's lived up to today's salary in 12-of-15 games as a result with three 40+ point nights. FIU is allowing teams to average 89 points against them in their last four games, making Young a great pivot off the most expensive options.
Blake Francis, G, Richmond ($6,600 DK)
With a lot of people likely focusing on the more hyped Iowa/Illinois game, there is sneaky potential in the Richmond/Saint Louis contest that is expected to reach at least the mid-70s. Francis is a nice value option at an average salary, having outperformed this price-tag in four of his last five games. His consistency is a testament to how difficult he is to defend, being a solid three-point shooter that also can score efficiently when driving to the basket. He's only been held to single-digits once this season and leads the Spiders in percentage of shots taken at 27.5 percent.
Adam Miller, G/F, Illinois ($5,200 DK)
We don't see many games with over/under totals in the 160s, so there will be plenty of viable options in this matchup. After averaging 20 minutes over his first five Big Ten games, Miller has seen an uptick in minutes since -- averaging 30 over his last four. He's scored 14 points twice over that stretch and also contributed at least four rebounds in three of those games. Iowa has struggled to defend the perimeter, allowing at least eight three-pointers in all of its conference games thus far, which suits Miller's strength.
Fades
Tyler Burton, F, Richmond ($8,500 DK)
Burton has been an effective player for Richmond this season, but he comes in with a salary too high for my liking after a trio of great games against weaker conference opponents. In two games prior to more formidable opponents in URI and St. Bonaventure, Burton was held in check. He's typically used as a role player behind Francis and Grant Golden, and with several quality high-priced options on tonight's slate, you're better off using Burton in a better spot.
Jordan Bohannon, G, Iowa ($6,700 DK)
Bohannon's upside usually makes him an intriguing play, as he's scored 40+ fantasy points twice but has also been held to 20 or less in over half his games. His role in the offense is quite limited, having attempted 10 shots just once in the last five games. That makes him heavily reliant on an efficient shooting night and several assists. I would only recommend using him in GPPs if you're looking to stack at least a few players from Iowa.
Tevin Brewer, G, FIU ($6,200 DK)
Brewer has had a nice junior campaign and has been getting quality minutes in the absence of Radshad Davis and Eric Lovett, but this is a difficult to spot to use him against a defensive minded and slow-paced Charlotte team. Nearly two-thirds of Brewer's points have come from long-range, where Charlotte has held opponents to 30 percent shooting. Antonio Daye ($8,000 DK) is the only FIU player I trust enough to consider rostering tonight in a contrarian strategy.
