Robert Spillane

Robert Spillane

29-Year-Old LinebackerLB
New England Patriots
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Spillane's rise in the NFL is an interesting case. He was an early-down linebacker and special teams contributor in Pittsburgh, but graduated to a near full-time defensive role in Las Vegas. His work in coverage suggests that his best fit is limited to primarily being a run stuffer, but the three-year, $33 million contract that he signed with New England this offseason tells us that coach Mike Vrabel views Spillane as a core defensive player and culture setter as the Patriots seek to get back to their winning ways. Given Spillane's lack of effectiveness in coverage, there is downside to his projection, though the worst-case scenario is that he remains elite against the run and sees a slight dip in his tackle total if he's taken off the field on clear passing downs. Hits double-digit stop mark again
LBNew England Patriots
September 29, 2025
Spillane totaled 10 tackles (four solo) in Sunday's 42-13 Week 4 win over Carolina.
ANALYSIS
Spillane was again very productive, as he ranked second on New England in stops. The veteran linebacker recorded a modest three tackles in both Week 1 and Week 2 but has since exploded for 25 stops over the past two weeks. That has put Spillane at 31 tackles through four contests.

Spillane's 148 tackles (82 solo) paced the Raiders' defense by a wide margin in his first season with the team, but he also bolstered his IDP fantasy output with 3.5 sacks, four passes defensed, three interceptions, one forced fumble and a recovery in 17 games. A significant payday could be on the horizon for the former UDFA if he's able to replicate this production, given his current contract expires after the 2024 campaign. Regardless, Spillane is locked in as the starting middle linebacker for the silver and black this season.
As a fifth-year vet with the Steelers in 2022, Spillane racked up a career-high 79 tackles (52 solo) to go along with a sack and four passes defensed in 16 games, playing an expanded role at inside linebacker that included 565 total defensive snaps. Upon signing a two-year, $7 million deal with the Raiders this offseason, Spillane is slated to start at middle linebacker in defensive coordinator Patrick Graham's 4-3 scheme with Denzel Perryman departing for Houston.
Spillane played mainly on special teams over the first half of the season in 2021 but saw additional snaps on the defensive side of the ball over the final three weeks of the regular season. He racked up 56 tackles (29 solo) but will likely revert to a depth role on defense after the Steelers signed Myles Jack during the offseason.
Vince Williams announced his retirement on the eve of training camp in 2021, so Spillane should have a chance to carve out a starting role ahead of the regular season. The 25-year-old racked up a career-high 45 tackles (39 solo), two sacks, an interception, four pass breakups and a touchdown across 12 appearances last season.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Key FA decision for Raiders
LBLas Vegas Raiders
February 23, 2025
Whether to re-sign Spillane, a pending free agent, is a key decision facing the Raiders this offseason, Ryan McFadden of ESPN.com opines.
ANALYSIS
Spillane has been one of the league's most productive linebackers during his two seasons with the Raiders, totaling 306 tackles, fourth most during that span behind only the distinguished trio of the Colts' Zaire Franklin, the Commanders' Bobby Wagner and the Ravens' Roquan Smith. Although there's a new head coach and general manager in Pete Carroll and John Spytek, respectively, Spillane has a key supporter in holdover defensive coordinator Patrick Graham, who has praised the veteran linebacker for his reliability and excellent communication skills that allow him to serve as the on-field coach of the defense.
