DraftKings MLB: Wednesday Picks

DraftKings MLB: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

There are a few routes to go in Wednesday night's slate, whether that's with ace pitching or with some value arms. Either way, I recommend an affordable infield and throw in a couple big bats if the roster allows it.

PITCHER

Kenta Maeda, LAD at SD ($9,300): It's easy to suggest a pitcher like Chris Sale ($13,000), but finding someone that can produce close to the same numbers for cheaper is more important. Maeda has at least 25 fantasy points in his last three starts and did so in only 5.2 innings last outing against the Angels. This will be easier than any of those matchups as the Padres are still sitting near the bottom of most categories with a 26.4 K%, .109 ISO and .282 wOBA against righties over the last month.

GPP Fade: Freddy Peralta, MIL at MIA ($10,300): There's little reason to put this much money into Peralta considering he hasn't hit six innings in half of his starts and Maeda is cheaper. Peralta is fine and he's had some huge outings, but the Marlins have hit the ball well over the last month with a .343 wOBA and lower 20.7 K% against righties.

Cheap GPP Consideration: Luke Weaver, STL at CWS ($7,700): Weaver has the same upside as Peralta and is worth a shot in a good situation. While his ERA is near five, he's hit 26 fantasy points in two of his last three outings due to 16 strikeouts. This matchup sets up perfectly for more Ks as the White Sox have struck out the most in MLB against righties in the last month with a 28.8 K%.

CATCHER

Kurt Suzuki, ATL vs. TOR ($3,400): Suzuki is a reliable bat that can get on base with a .338 wOBA against righties this year following last year's .341. Sam Gaviglio doesn't allow a ton of hits, but he also doesn't go deep, failing to reach five innings in four of his last five starts. His .342 wOBA allowed to righty bats in his two years is also subpar.

FIRST BASE

Chris Davis, BAL vs. NYY ($3,000): If you use one of the expensive pitchers, you'll need to go cheap somewhere else. Davis is more of a GPP play against a pitcher that has struggled all year and at the least, he still has some power after a couple recent homers and last year's .250 ISO against righties. Sonny Gray hasn't made it three innings in his last two starts and has allowed a home run in each of his last three.

SECOND BASE

Brad Miller, MIL at MIA ($3,500): Miller doesn't provide much excitement, but he gets on base with a .376 BABIP against righty arms and that should work against Dan Straily. The righty hurler has a 4.55 ERA, walked seven betters in his last two starts and has a troubling .357 wOBA allowed to lefties.

THIRD BASE

Jedd Gyorko, STL at CWS ($3,600): Gyorko won't break the bank, yet is solid with eight extra-base hits (4 HR) and a .366 BABIP against southpaws in 60 plate appearances, which is near his career .355 wOBA. Carlos Rodon hasn't had a good start this season with a 4.29 ERA and that's only raising his career .342 wOBA allowed to righties.

SHORTSTOP

Trevor Story, COL vs. ARI ($5,300): Story's numbers are better against lefties, but he's still one of the best against righties with 17 extra-base hits (7 HR) in 97 at-bats at Coors Field. He and the Rockies should blast Shelby Miller, who has allowed 20 hits, 14 runs and four homers in three starts. Now in Colorado, expect similar numbers (or worse) for the righty.

OUTFIELD

David Peralta, ARI at COL ($5,200): An Arizona player has to be used in this game and Peralta is the pick along with any lefty on the roster. He has 12 homers against righties to go with a solid .363 BABIP. Combine that with German Marquez's massive struggles at home and Peralta should be good. At home against lefties (109 batters faced), Marquez has allowed a .463 OBP and 2.70 HR/9.

Brett Gardner, NYY at BAL ($4,400): Gardner's price isn't overwhelming like some of his teammates so he makes sense in a decent spot. He's been hot with a couple homers in the last week and has a stout .346 wOBA against righties, which is near his career rate. Dylan Bundy has a few good outings, but he's still struggling and gave up nine hits and five runs in 3.1 innings against the Marlins last time out. His 4.80 xFIP (career 5.05) against lefty bats is also an issue versus this lineup.

Gerardo Parra, COL vs. ARI ($3,900): Parra doesn't have the same kind of power as some of the other guys, but he gets on base against righty arms with a .386 BABIP. In addition to Miller's recent struggles, the last time he started regularly in the majors (2016), he had a 1.47 HR/9 allowed and 5.54 xFIP against lefty bats.
