NASCAR's Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series championship playoffs commence this week at Bristol Motor Speedway. Grant Enfinger won last week at Richmond in the final regular-season race that set the playoff field. Ten truck drivers now will focus on navigating their way through the elimination rounds en route to a chance to race for the title. That path to the trophy begins this week at Bristol, the second short-track race in a row. Enfinger will lead the field to the green flag. His partner on the front row, Brett Moffitt, is the most recent winner at the high-banked concrete speedway after winning there last season.

Bristol is another short-track race, but the venue is very different than what teams encountered last week at Richmond. Bristol's high banks require drivers to get into a rhythm. Also different than Richmond is the number of grooves drivers can generally use to get through the turns as quickly as possible. While Richmond had a handful of lines for drivers to use, Bristol essentially has two. Drivers can hug the inside line or run up against the wall. Similar to Richmond, however, is the fact that pitting off strategy does not come without significant risk. Track position likely will play a larger role in the outcome than tire wear, and moves to pit under green could be punished with an untimely caution that traps teams that opt for early pit stops laps down. Still, Bristol tends to be won by drivers starting inside the top 10.

The last driver to win in the truck series at Bristol is Brett Moffitt, who will start on the front row Thursday night alongside Grant Enfinger. Enfinger has three series starts at the track with a worst finish of 10th. His average result from those three tries is an impressive 6.3. Matt Crafton has considerably more Bristol experience than this lineup's first two selections. His 17 starts have ended with 11 top-10s and an average finish of 10.5. He's still fishing for his first series win at the track, though, and will start fourth this week. Ben Rhodes is another consistent top-10 finisher at Bristol. His five series starts at the track have earned him four top-10 finishes with an average of 11.8. Tyler Ankrum made his way into the playoffs and will start seventh at Bristol to begin his championship campaign. His only Bristol start ended in a disappointing 20th-place finish, but he only has four finishes this season worse than 15th and should be expected to have a better outing this week. The last selection in this lineup is Austin Wayne Self, who will have his best Bristol starting position — 18th. His last two races at the track have both been top-15 finishes.
