2025 Fantasy Outlook
Johnson threw his curveball a career-high 71.6 percent of the time last season, but his strikeout rate dipped below 30 percent for the first time since 2018. It was still well above-average (84th percentile), but the 33-year-old's perennially high walk rate - it has been in the 18th percentile or worse over Johnson's last three full seasons - leave little room for regression in the category, especially if he's to take on more high-leverage opportunities in 2025. Johnson has climbed Atlanta's bullpen hierarchy by default due to Joe Jimenez's knee injury and A.J. Minter entering free-agency, so it's reasonable to assume the right-hander would be one of the team's primary setup men in 2025, at least as the roster currently stands. Read Past Outlooks

Riding scoreless streak into break
Johnson has a 2.67 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 36:10 K:BB through 33.2 innings this season with a win, a save and seven holds in 36 appearances.
Analysis
The 34-year-old right-hander is tied for second on Atlanta in holds, behind Dylan Lee's nine, and Johnson heads into the All-Star break having not allowed a run since June 7, posting a 0.97 WHIP and 11:3 K:BB in 10.1 innings over that scoreless stretch. If the struggling club decide to be sellers at the trade deadline and move closer Raisel Iglesias, Johnson could move into the ninth-inning mix over the final months of the season.

Johnson racked up 13 saves and 58 strikeouts over 39 innings for Colorado before the right-hander was traded to Atlanta in late-July. At the time of the trade, he had a 6.00 ERA and 1.85 WHIP, but Johnson was able to turn his season around for his new team. The 32-year-old delivered an impressive 0.76 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 32:5 K:BB ratio over his final 23.2 innings with the NL East champions. He finished the year with career-highs in multiple categories, including innings pitched (62.2), strikeouts (90) and holds (12), while also posting a 30-plus percent strikeout rate for the fourth straight year. Johnson's performance in the second half earned him a 2-year, $14.25 million contract extension with Atlanta, with whom he figures to pitch in a setup role in 2024.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Possible trade chip
Johnson could be traded by Atlanta ahead of the July 31 deadline, reports Lindsay Crosby of AthlonSports.com.
Analysis
The right-hander has been a key bullpen piece in 2025 with one save and seven holds to go along with a 2.67 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 36:10 K:BB across 33.2 innings. Johnson's $7 million club option for 2026 has just a $250,000 buyout, which would provide some flexibility for teams buying at the deadline. Atlanta isn't guaranteed to be sellers, but a 42-53 record at the All-Star break certainly points in that direction.
