2025 Fantasy Outlook
Ashton Jeanty tends to hog the headlines, but if Hampton were in any other draft there might have been more spotlight to properly appreciate him. Hampton is either blue-chip or close to it in his own right, heading to Los Angeles as the 22nd overall pick after topping 1,500 rushing yards in back-to-back seasons for UNC. At 6-feet, 221 pounds, Hampton logged excellent athletic testing at the combine, running a 4.46-second 40-yard dash with strong jumps (38-inch vertical, 130-inch broad jump) to finalize a standout prospect profile. He averaged 23.4 carries and 3.2 catches per game in 2024, and more than 20 touches per game in 2023, boasting elite efficiency in both samples without missing any games. Hampton may eventually rank among the league leaders in touches, but he'll first need to compete with Najee Harris, who signed a one-year, $5.25 million contract with the Chargers this offseason. While not on Hampton's level as a pure runner, Harris offers an unusual combination of size, durability and passing-down competence, making him a threat to handle high-value touches even if/when the rookie takes over as the Chargers' lead back. RANKS
Ruled out for Week 13
Hampton (ankle) won't play Sunday against the Raiders, Eric Smith of the Chargers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Hampton, whose 21-day practice window was opened Tuesday, was limited at practice this week, but he won't be activated from IR ahead of Week 13 action and thus will target a potential return to the lineup Monday, Dec. 8 against the Eagles. In Hampton's continued absence, Kimani Vidal once again is in line to pace the Chargers backfield this weekend, with Trayveon Williams, Jaret Patterson and Amar Johnson all options to come up from the practice squad. Per Kris Rhim of ESPN.com, Hampton revealed Wednesday that he is bouncing back from a left ankle fracture that he sustained Week 5, and the running back was sporting a yellow (non-contact) jersey in practice Friday, per Rhim. Meanwhile, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that coach Jim Harbaugh told reporters that "it was a good week" for Hampton, "really beneficial, ramping up. Everything's on track to return, (but) not this week."

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Remaining out in Week 13
Hampton, who's in the final stages of his recovery from an ankle fracture, has been ruled out for Sunday's Week 13 matchup against the Raiders, Kris Rhim of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Hampton was designated to return from injured reserve Tuesday and proceeded to turn in a trio of limited practices during Week 13 prep. Head coach Jim Harbaugh said Hampton is "on track" to return without specifying a particular timeline, adding "gosh, he looked good" when discussing the rookie running back's practice performance. If Hampton is able to turn in another week of practice without setbacks leading up to Week 14, he would seemingly have a good chance of suiting up for a Dec. 8 Monday night matchup against the Eagles.
