Omarion Hampton

22-Year-Old Running BackRB
Los Angeles Chargers
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Ashton Jeanty tends to hog the headlines, but if Hampton were in any other draft there might have been more spotlight to properly appreciate him. Hampton is either blue-chip or close to it in his own right, heading to Los Angeles as the 22nd overall pick after topping 1,500 rushing yards in back-to-back seasons for UNC. At 6-feet, 221 pounds, Hampton logged excellent athletic testing at the combine, running a 4.46-second 40-yard dash with strong jumps (38-inch vertical, 130-inch broad jump) to finalize a standout prospect profile. He averaged 23.4 carries and 3.2 catches per game in 2024, and more than 20 touches per game in 2023, boasting elite efficiency in both samples without missing any games. Hampton may eventually rank among the league leaders in touches, but he'll first need to compete with Najee Harris, who signed a one-year, $5.25 million contract with the Chargers this offseason. While not on Hampton's level as a pure runner, Harris offers an unusual combination of size, durability and passing-down competence, making him a threat to handle high-value touches even if/when the rookie takes over as the Chargers' lead back. Uneven rookie season ends in loss
RBLos Angeles Chargers
January 12, 2026
Hampton lost a yard on his only carry in the 16-3 wild-card loss Sunday to the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
The rookie was active for the postseason contest despite failing to practice both Wednesday and Thursday due to an ankle injury, but the Chargers opted not to give Hampton any work as Kimani Vidal took all 11 of the team's other RB carries. It was a rollercoaster of a season for the 2025 first-round pick, as Hampton was thrust immediately into prominence Week 1 due to Najee Harris' eye injury and capped off a solid first month with an explosive 165 total yards on 17 touches Week 4 against the Giants. That game ended up being Hampton's only contest over 100 total yards the rest of the season, however, as the 22-year-old missed seven weeks due to a fractured ankle and returned to an offensive line completely in tatters by Week 14. The Chargers are certainly invested enough in Hampton to make him a sought-after fantasy asset in 2026, but the team will need to make a concerted effort to rebuild an offensive line that was decimated by injuries by the end of the season. Hampton is expected to have at least one complementary piece alongside him come next year, whether it be exclusive rights free agent Vidal, a cheaper veteran comparable to the aforementioned Harris or a combination of both.

Planning to play Sunday
RBLos Angeles Chargers
January 9, 2026
Hampton, who missed Week 18 with an ankle injury and only got in a limited Friday practice this week, plans to play in Sunday night's wild-card matchup against the Patriots, Kris Rhim of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The talented rookie stated his intention to play after participating in his first practice since Week 17 prep Friday. The current injury Hampton is dealing with is to his right ankle, but he also suffered a left ankle fracture in Week 5 that led to a stint on injured reserve. Hampton is still expected to split the rushing workload with backfield mate Kimani Vidal, who proved highly capable as both a primary and complementary option, as needed, this past regular season.
