Race Preview
The NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoor trucks had a week to catch their breath after the double-header weekend two weeks ago at Kansas Speedway. Matt Crafton and Austin Hill scored the wins and booked their spots in the playoffs with six races left to finalize the field of championship contenders. This week, the series returns at Michigan International Speedway where Austin Hill will attempt to defend his race win from last season. Two new winners from Kansas tighten the battle around the final playoff positions with Todd Gilliland holding a 12-point advantage over Tyler Ankrum in the 10th and final playoff position.

Racing at Michigan is all about horsepower. The wide turns allow drivers to move up and down the banking as handling changes throughout a fuel run. Getting back to the throttle as quickly as possible is imperative to maximizing speed down the long straights. The circuit's 2.0-mile distance also allows a bit more flexibility for pit stops. Fuel strategy could come into play as drivers try to make up positions by running in clean air and less traffic. Toyota trucks have won five of the last six races at the track, and the race has only been won from pole once.

After a rough second race at Kansas two weeks ago, Johnny Sauter's playoff hopes now hang in the balance. He's in need of a win to put himself back into championship contention and will be looking to do so this week at Michigan where he won in 2014. He has four top-10 finishes from his last six starts at the track and will start 13th Friday night. Matt Crafton got his 2020 win in that second Kansas race, and with four top-fives from the last four races, he's in peak form right now. Crafton has never won at Michigan but does have seven consecutive top-10s at the track heading into this week's race. Like Sauter, Brett Moffitt also finds himself in playoff danger leaving Kansas. He holds the final playoff spot with a 31-point gap back to Derek Kraus. Moffitt starts on the front row and has two Michigan wins from four series starts. Ben Rhodes has been in excellent form with just two finishes outside of the top 10 so far this season. He starts 10th this week and led 15 laps in this race last season. Ryan Truex will make his fourth truck start this season, and with two top-15 finishes from his first three outings, he's a nice value for fantasy players this weekend. Rounding things out is Tyler Hill. He has four 2020 starts to date with two top-20 finishes. He will start 30th on Friday.
