Race Preview
Austin Hill clinched a spot in the next round of the playoffs with a win last week at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The win came at an ideal time to boost his confidence, considering he won this visit to Talladega Superspeedway last season, too. Sheldon Creed was the runner-up in that race and is the top of the playoff standings heading into this weekend's race. This week's elimination race means seven spots in the next round are up for grabs. Sam Mayer's win two weeks ago at Bristol means no one other than Hill has locked in a place among the final eight championship contenders. A win this weekend from any of the remaining playoff drivers would guarantee their spot alongside Hill and six others in the round of eight when the next round of championship eliminations gets underway at Texas Motor Speedway.

The high-banked superspeedway of Talladega presents a unique challenge for the NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series contenders in the final race of the first round of the 2020 playoffs. Horsepower and leveraging the draft is the key to victory at the superspeedway, but avoiding the wrecks that collect multiple bystanders is also part of the art. Track position will not matter this week as much as having a drafting partner, or more, near you. Working together to move forward through the field is a necessity, and finding drafting partners can be challenging as the race progresses. With just 19 points separating the last three drivers in the standings, stage points will be a highly valued commodity.

Johnny Sauter is a former Talladega winner with five top-10s from 11 starts at the track. He finished seventh at Daytona earlier this season and will start in 14th position this weekend. This should be another opportunity to score a top-10 this season for him. Grant Enfinger is also a former Talladega winner. He won this race in 2016 and finished 12th or better in four of his six Talladega starts. Enfinger is currently fifth in the playoff standings and won at the other superspeedway on the calendar in the first race of 2020. Daytona 500 winner Trevor Bayne is one of NASCAR's best superspeedway racers. He finished third at this track in the Cup series with Roush Fenway Racing in 2017. This will be his third series start this season and he will start 25th. Tanner Gray is currently 12th in the standings after back-to-back third-place finishes coming into this weekend. Gray has one ARCA race under his belt at Talladega, which ended with a mechanical issue. He also finished 23rd at Daytona earlier this year after sustaining crash damage. Raphael Lessard sits just behind Gray in the standings and will start Saturday's race 15th. This will be his first Talladega start but he was in the top 10 in both opening stages at Daytona earlier this season before being caught in a later crash. Bayley Currey rounds off this week's lineup with another first-time start at the track. Currey, who says he enjoys superspeedway racing, will start 21st on Saturday and has three top-20 finishes in his last three series starts.
