Race Preview
After a week off, the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series returns to action this week at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Ben Rhodes is the most recent series winner, having taken the checkered flag in the two opening races of the season at Daytona International Speedway. That strong start to the season helped to earn him the top starting spot for this week's race, too. The defending race winner is Kyle Busch, while Austin Hill won the return visit in the fall. Hill's victory was the first from a driver who started outside of the top 10 since Tyler Reddick's win in 2016. Busch will be in the field again this weekend in his fourth series start at the track but will start deeper in the field due to the elimination of on-track qualifying.

Toyota has been the dominant manufacturer at Las Vegas recently, winning six of the last seven races. The race also tends to favor drivers who start closer to the front. Only once in 27 series races has a driver won from outside of the top 20 starting spots and only twice from outside of the top 15. Fantasy players will have to assess how much the lack of practice or qualifying will upset that trend, however. Last season, Kyle Busch started third and went on to lead 108 of 134 laps. However, in the fall, Austin Hill started 11th and led 39 laps. There were 15 lead changes in Busch's win but just four in Hill's. Both races had five caution periods. That trend suggests fantasy players should look for drivers who have a history of being quick on 1.5-mile ovals and weigh starting position a bit less than they have in the past.

Kyle Busch's appearance in the Truck Series makes him an easy selection for fantasy players. He typically wins when he races, and this week his starting position should give an extra batch of points from finish differential. He is likely to find his way to the front quickly and is expected to be a factor for the win. Grant Enfinger is a past Las Vegas winner, too. He led 40 laps and won in 2018 and finished sixth there last fall. He will start Friday's race 18th. Johnny Sauter won his first series Las Vegas appearance in 2009. In his 15 starts at the track since then he only finished outside of the top 15 twice. He was the runner up in this race last season and starts 11th this week. Rookie Hailie Deegan will make her first Las Vegas start in the series this week and will start 30th. Selecting her this week comes with some risk, since she hasn't raced in the series at this track, but her series debut last season was on a 1.5-mile oval and she finished 16th. Ryan Truex has two series starts at Las Vegas with two 12th-place finishes. Truex has the 24th starting position and should be expected to climb to a top-15 finish. Finally, Kris Wright will make his second start of the season this week. He raced on the oval in Daytona and earned a 12th-place finish. He will start 15th this Friday, which puts him in a nice position to grab another top-15 finish.
