Race Preview
One week after Sheldon Creed won his second race of the season on Daytona's road course, the series makes its return to oval racing at Dover International Speedway. Johnny Sauter won the last three visits to the track and would force his way into the playoffs if he was able to do it again this weekend in the KDI Technology 200. Sauter's teammate Matt Crafton is the only other prior Dover winner in Friday's 200-lap event. With four races remaining to set the playoff field, the battle for the final spots continues to heat up. Only five points separate Tyler Ankrum, Todd Gilliland and Derek Kraus in the cut-line fight with Kraus sitting just outside the top 10 in 11th.

Dover is a fast 1.0-mile concrete oval with heavily banked turns. The track has a reputation for punishing drivers and equipment, and rewards track position. Not once in the 20-race history has a winner started outside of the top 20, and only four times has someone started outside of the top 10 made his or her way to Victory Lane. This year, with the lack of practice and qualifying, the teams will be tested. Handling is an important factor, as the drivers need to be able to turn to the bottom of each corner to maximize drive on corner exit to set up passes at the end of the straights. Making the right calls on pit lane and remaining mistake-free will be imperative to being in position to battle for the win at the end of 200 laps.

With wins in the last three Dover races, it's hard to ignore Johnny Sauter this week. He currently sits outside of the playoff positions, and a win would put him into the championship battle. His biggest issue this week may be his starting position of 15th, but he remains one of the best drivers in the series at this track. Stewart Friesen is another driver on the outside of the playoff spots. He starts 11th on Friday and finished 12th in last year's Dover race. Ben Rhodes finished in the top 10 in each of the last three Dover races. He was 18th in Miami, another 1.0-mile oval, earlier this season and hasn't finished lower than 14th since then. Ty Majeski will be relieved to return to oval racing after a tough day on the road course last week. He finished 32nd at Daytona but has been a regular figure in the top 15 much of this season. On the other side of the road-course spectrum, Raphael Lessard earned his first top-five of the season at Daytona. He sits 13th in the playoff standings and will start fifth on Friday. Part-timer Timmy Hill fills the final roster spot. He started 22nd and finished 15th in his only Dover start in the trucks and should move forward from the 30th starting position again this week.
