NHL Thursday Night: Top Betting Picks and Parlay Insights

Dallas Stars at Tampa Bay Lightning

The Stars (6-3-1) and Lightning (4-4-2) meet at Amalie Arena in Tampa at 7:00 p.m. in the nationally-televised game.

Dallas has posted a 3-1-0 record on the road this season, including a 3-2 win at Nashville on Sunday as moderate favorites (-155) as the Under (6) cashed. In the most recent game, Jake Oettinger kicked aside all 24 of the shots he faced in a 1-0 victory over the Capitals. The Under has cashed six consecutive games for the Stars after a 4-0 run to the Over to start the season. The Under is 3-0 in three games against Eastern Conference teams as well.

The Lightning posted a 5-2 win over the Predators on the road Tuesday, winning a season-high third straight game. In fact, prior to the three-game streak, the Lightning were 1-4-2 in the first seven games. The Under is 5-2 in the past seven matchups.

Oettinger (5-2-1, 2.61 GAA, .909 SV%, 1 SO) is expected to start for the visitors, while Andrei Vasilevskiy (2-3-2, 2.86 GAA, .892 SV%) is projected for the Lightning.

Both of these teams have won three in a row. Let's back Oettinger and the Stars, as they're playing slightly better overall, and we'll side with the Under.

  • Under 6.5 Goals (-135 at DraftKings Sportsbook)

Vancouver Canucks at St. Louis Blues

The Canucks (5-6-0) and Blues (3-6-1) meet at Enterprise Center in St. Louis at 8:00 p.m. ET on ESPN+.

These teams have already met once this season, as the Blues went to the Pacific Northwest on Oct. 13, picking up a 5-2 victory as underdog (+105) as the Over (5.5) cashed. The Blues have won five of the past six meetings in this series, with the Over cashing in each of the past five installments. The underdog is an amazing 5-1 in the past six meetings, and eight of the past 10 battles in this series.

In that mid-October win, Jimmy Snuggerud led the way with two goals, including a power-play goal, including the game-winning tally midway through the second period. Keifer Sherwood scored both of the goals for the Canucks, but Jordan Binnington turned aside the other 27 shots he faced. Kevin Lankinen started for the Canucks, and he was dinged for four goals on 35 shots.

For Vancouver, Thatcher Demko (4-3-0, 2.17 GAA, .926 SV%) is expected to start, facing Binnington (2-4-1, 3.27 GAA, .863 SV%). While the goalie numbers look like they might favor the visitors, we have to back the Blues, who have dominated this series in recent seasons. Let's keep going high until that wave crashes.

  • Blues ML (-145 at Caesars, ESPN Bet and Fanatics Sportsbooks)
  • Over 5.5 Goals (-128 at FanDuel Sportsbook)

New Jersey Devils at San Jose Sharks

The red-hot Devils (8-2-0) take on the Sharks (2-6-2) at SAP Center in San Jose at 10:00 p.m. ET on ESPN+.

New Jersey was cooled off in an 8-4 loss at Colorado on Tuesday, but the Devils are still 8-1-0 in the past nine games, including a 3-1 win over the Sharks last Friday as the Under (6.5) cashed behind Jake Allen.

In that win as a heavy favorite (-360), the Sharks took the lead 1-0 with a William Eklund power-play goal, with a helper to Macklin Celebrini. However, Dougie Hamilton had a pair of power-play goals in the second period, and Connor Brown added an empty-net goal with 47 seconds left in regulation to cover the puck line.

Allen faced just 17 shots, making 16 saves, while Yaroslav Askarov allowed two goals on 28 shots for the hard-luck loss.

Jacob Markstrom, who missed the first game due to a lower-body injury, was pounded for eight goals on 42 shots in that loss to the Avs. It was his first game back in 15 days, and there was sure to be rust.

The Sharks are expected to use Alex Nedeljkovic (1-2-1, 3.98 GAA, .874 SV%), so the best bet here is to roll with the Over. San Jose has scored six goals on three separate occasions through 10 games, and all three times the game went to overtime, with two wins. The Over is 4-1 in the past five games as well. Let's take a chance on the Sharks to spring the surprise, and we'll go high on the total.

  • Over 6.5 Goals (-104 at FanDuel Sportsbook)
