Rest-of-Season Projections
2025 Fantasy Outlook
At the start of spring training, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza named Bader the team's everyday center fielder. While that mostly held true during the season, there was times during the season when the 30-year-old's playing time was hit-or-miss. Bader did ultimately finish with 143 games and 437 plate appearances, which were both career highs, thanks in large part to a rare full season of health for the outfielder. A .657 OPS and 85 wRC+ weren't anything to write home about, but Bader did prove useful in deeper fantasy formats with his 12 home runs and 17 stolen bases. After signing a one-year contract with Minnesota, Bader may be used more in a reserve and platoon role. However, he should get plenty of playing time in center field behind an injury-prone Byron Buxton and could also factor into a platoon elsewhere in an outfield dominated by left-handed hitters. Homers in Minnesota debut
Bader went 2-for-4 with a double and a two-run home run in Thursday's loss against the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Bader appeared ticketed for fourth-outfielder duties with the Twins heading into spring training, but he seems to be a beneficiary of the injuries to infielders Royce Lewis (hamstring) and Brooks Lee (back). With Lewis and Lee on the injured list, Jose Miranda is expected to see the majority of the starts at third base to begin the season, making corner outfielders Trevor Larnach and Matt Wallner candidates to see more time at designated hitter and thereby opening up a spot in the outfield for Bader. His performance Thursday should also help keep him the lineup in the short term until Lee or Lewis return.

There have been flashes of fantasy upside over the course of his first seven major-league seasons, but Bader has yet to truly put it all together at age 29 and is coming off one of the worst years of his career. He stole 20 bases in 23 attempts between the Yankees and Reds in 2023 but posted a miserable .274 on-base percentage across 344 plate appearances. That is an incredibly low OBP for a player who tends to rank in the 85th-to-95th percentile in sprint speed. Bader plays tremendous defense in center field, but he almost seems allergic to drawing walks and struggles to make hard contact against right-handed pitching. Given that most people and pitchers are right-handed, it's difficult to project how he is ever going to break into the ranks of reliable fantasy outfielders. Find steals elsewhere.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Fit with Minnesota?
The Twins may have interest in signing Bader, reports Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic.
ANALYSIS
Minnesota requires a high-level backup in center field given Byron Buxton's injury history, and Bader fits that bill well as a plus defender. The 30-year-old played in 143 regular-season games for the Mets in 2024 and had a .236/.284/.373 slash line with 12 homers and 17 stolen bases.
