SLATE PREVIEW
It's trade deadline day so be prepared for some last-minute changes as teams finalize trades made Sunday night.
Regardless, there are eight games for Monday starting with the Maple Leafs at Canadiens at 7 p.m. EDT. Newly acquired Nick Foligno is not expected to make his Leafs debut, but the acquisition of David Rittich also means that Jack Campbell will be their No. 1 going forward.
The Blues have a key matchup with the Wild (8 p.m.) as they remain one point ahead of the Coyotes in the West Division. It's the closest race between the four and five seeds in any division so far.
GOALIES
Jack Campbell, TOR at MON ($8,700): This feels expensive because Campbell's play has tailed off recently and his 11-game winning streak is already historic. Still, it's a good matchup for the Leafs, who have won four of their past five against the Habs, including Campbell's win on March 7.
Petr Mrazek, CAR vs. DET ($8,500): Mrazek allowed four goals in his last start against the Wings but it just wasn't his night, no thanks to a couple bad bounces. It's rare to see the Canes lose two in a row this season and Monday should be no exception against the shorthanded Wings.
Philipp Grubauer, COL vs. ARI ($8,300): Grubauer has allowed 11 goals in his past two games but he's been generally very good this season. The Coyotes are making some noise but they're starting to fade again, and even including that ugly 8-3 defeat, they've lost just six times in March.
Connor Hellebuyck, WPG at OTT ($7,700): Hellebuyck or Laurent Broissoit will be a good pick here. The Sens have beaten the Jets just once this season, and that was only with nine seconds remaining in the third period. The Sens traded their second-best defenseman, Mike Reilly, to the Bruins on Sunday.
Kevin Lankinen, CHI at CBJ ($7,400): Fatigue and a regression toward the mean should explain why Lankinen and the Blackhawks have slipped recently, but the Jackets have basically stripped their roster trading captain Nick Foligno and defenseman David Savard. They've lost four straight to the Hawks and their odds aren't getting any better.
VALUE PLAYS
Pius Suter, CHI at CBJ ($4,000): Suter will center Patrick Kane on the top line, which makes left winger Brandon Hagel ($3,500) a potential value play, too, but Suter has a much higher offensive ceiling with power-play time to boot.
Alex Galchenyuk, TOR at MON ($3,700): He collected two helpers in 17 minutes against the Sens and it looks like he will remain on the top line next to Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner while the Leafs await Foligno's arrival. Galchenyuk has put seven shots on goal in his past two games and excelling playing next to elite talents.
Jesperi Kotkaniemi, MON vs. TOR ($3,600): The Leafs are not an easy opponent but two things work in KK's favor: Campbell's play is trending down and his injury history suggests that this type of workload isn't something that he can sustain over a long period, and his possession stats on a line with Phillip Danault and Tomas Tatar have improved.
LINE STACKS
Hurricanes vs. Red Wings
Vincent Trocheck (C - $6,300), Nino Niederreiter (W - $4,200), Martin Necas (W - $5,000)
They combined for four points in their last game so we're reaching back into the same well again. The Wings' lack of depth down the middle opens things up for Trocheck, and the Canes will get last change on home ice. Necas is catching fire again with two straight multi-point games following a five-game drought.
Blackhawks at Blue Jackets
Kirby Dach (C - $3,700), Alex DeBrincat (W - $7,000), Dylan Strome (W - $4,100)
Their possession stats weren't very good last game (30.77 5v5 CF%) but hardly anybody on the Hawks did, either. However, all three players did combine for a goal, and DeBrincat and Strome have had chemistry in the past as teammates all the way back to major junior. DeBrincat and Dach both play PP1 with Kane, while Strome leads PP2 as the preferred center.
DEFENSEMEN
Dougie Hamilton, CAR vs. DET ($6,400): It's Dougie all day, every day. He scored two points against the Red Wings and remains one of the best DFS plays with his ability to consistently generate shots and offense.
Seth Jones, CBJ vs. CHI ($4,800): No Savard and no Zach Werenski, and John Tortorella isn't the guy to let up. So how many minutes will Jones play? He's the lone defenseman on their top power-play unit now, and his role might get even better with Michael Del Zotto potentially getting moved.
Thomas Chabot, OTT vs. WPG ($4,800): Chabot has not scored a goal since March 12 and has just three helpers in his past seven games, but is still by far the Sens' best defenseman and manages to get shots on net. With Reilly getting traded, you wonder if the Sens will just opt to play Chabot on both power-play units. The upside is increased ice time for Chabot, the downside is that it's the Sens, and the Jets are very good.
Erik Karlsson, SJ vs. ANH ($4,500): I like this value play for a defenseman who can still generate some offense. The Sharks have won four of their past six and while they still don't quite have an identity this season – they don't defend well and they don't score consistently – but they've generally been quite successful against the Ducks, winning four of six and scoring at least three goals four times.
