The Reshuffle List: Looking Ahead to the Second Reshuffle

While it may seem like the PGA Tour season just started, we're actually already halfway to the second reshuffle of the 2013-14 season. So with that in mind, here's a look at who's done what on the Reshuffle List with just four weeks to go before the reshuffle comes at the conclusion of the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship.

Biggest Gainers

Will Wilcox, +23 spots - Wilcox, one of the players hurt by the new PGA Tour qualifying system (see below), did not get a start in the fall schedule, was at the bottom of the Reshuffle List following the previous reshuffle and desperately needed a good finish in his first few events in January. He got it in his first start of the season with a T8 at the Sony Open. Already in the Humana Challenge, that finish got him into last week's Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines but, unfortunately for Wilcox, he missed the cut in both. If the Reshuffle happened today he'd only move up to 24th on the list, and while that's a substantial jump, it will require more solid finishes in limited opportunities to improve his chances of keeping his card for the 2014-15 season.

Chad Collins, +18 spots - Collins' rise is also by virtue of one solid finish, an eighth at Humana. His previous finishes -- T72-MC-MC-T23-T46 -- were nice, but nothing special, so the finish in Palm Springs was a big deal. Collins is fourth in scrambling from the rough.

Hudson Swafford, +17 spots - Swafford, who may be the best of the PGA Tour's rookie crop for 2013-14, was part of a crowded leaderboard at the Sony Open that nearly ended in him being the winner. He finished eighth and backed that up with a T25 at PGA West the next week. He's 18th in greens in regulation and seventh in total driving. He's also a nice fantasy pick if you need an under-the-radar sleeper.

Brad Fritsch, +14 spots - Fritsch, who's been off and on the Reshuffle List in recent years, got a boost from his T10 last week at the Farmers Insurance Open. Seventh in par-5 birdie or better, Fritsch may be someone to look out for as he has experience paying on golf's biggest stage.

Matt Bettencourt, +13 spots - Bettencourt falls into the nowhere to go but up category, as he started the reshuffle period in 46th place and with any positive finish he was bound to move up. He got it via a T66 at the Farmers Insurance Open last week in just his second start of the 2013-14 season that gave him 4.5 FedEx Cup points. For Bettencourt to keep his PGA Tour card he'll need to play well in whatever playing opportunities he gets.

Biggest Losers

Chesson Hadley, -9 spots - Arguably the most disappointing performance so far this season of anyone on the Reshuffle List belongs to Hadley, who won the Web.com Tour Championship and had all the momentum in the world going into a PGA Tour season that started just two weeks later. But after opening up his season going T72-T5 in his first two starts, Hadley has missed five consecutive cuts with zero rounds in the 60s in that timespan. What's the issue? He's no better than 41st than any of the PGA Tour's key performance stats and is toward the bottom in driving accuracy, greens in regulation and strokes gained-putting. Starting at the top of the list has its advantages - you won't lose that many playing opportunities, for example - but he needs to turn it around fast to save his season and keep his card.

Sean O'Hair, -9 spots - O'Hair, who worked hard to regain his card, carried the momentum of the Web.com Tour Finals into the start of the season with T26-T15 finishes to open up the new campaign. But since then he's missed four cuts and would drop to 19th on the list if the reshuffle happened today. Poor driving accuracy and iron play are the culprits as he's 153rd in driving accuracy and 130th in greens in regulation.

Danny Lee, -8 spots - Lee has had a tough start to his season, as he's missed five cuts in seven starts. His two finishes aren't very dazzling either - a tie for 33rd and a tie for 40th. Needless to say fantasy owners may want to avoid Lee, as he's 111th in driving distance and 108th in driving accuracy. Not a good combination.

Troy Matteson, -7 spots - Matteson is in a similar spot as Lee - five missed cuts in seven starts - but at least he's got a top-5 finish to his name, which came in Las Vegas. Fifth in the Reshuffle List standings, a drop for him would not be as big of a deal as it would be for someone like Lee (who would fall to 25th).

Kevin Kisner, -7 spots - Kisner, ninth in the standings, would drop to 16th if the Reshuffle happened today. While he's made it to the weekend a bunch - four made cuts in seven starts - his finishes in those events just aren't very flashy: T20, T33, T48 and T60. He's also got the bad driving combination going, ranking 149th out of 167 players in total driving.

This an update on the golfers we profiled in our initial piece on the 2013-14 Reshuffle List, and how the new system and its flaws - specifically with placement on the Reshuffle List following the Web.com Tour Finals - might have decided some of their seasons before it even started (ranking numbers are from where they started from this season)
