The Reshuffle List: Fallout From the First Reshuffle

Believe it or not, it's already come and gone. The six-tournament fall slate of the 2013-14 PGA Tour season is complete and the first reshuffle of the young PGA Tour season has already been made. It was a controversial start, with some new card holders getting plenty of chances to play and some having next to none. Here's how it all shook out, with a reminder that the Reshuffle List is calculated in FedEx Cup points, not money:

Biggest Gainers

Tim Wilkinson, +22 - Wilkinson's huge rise is a product of two things: one dazzling finish - T10 last week at Mayakoba - and also the fact that he started 36th on the list, and when you're that far down it's easy to rise. Also making it easy to rise is being 23rd in driving accuracy and 11th in final round scoring average.

Ricky Barnes, +19 - Although Barnes missed the cut in Mayakoba last week, his run of T33-T15 through the wine country of California and Las Vegas has moved him to 12th on the list as 2014 approaches. At 50th in scoring average and 69th in strokes gained-putting, Barnes has momentum on his side as he begins the new calendar year looking for his first PGA Tour victory.

Billy Hurley III, +18 - Hurley is a prime example of a player who used the Web.com Tour Finals to his advantage. He went T30-T22-T8 through the final three events there and then turned around a couple weeks later and opened up the PGA Tour season with a T9 at the Frys.com Open and a T48 in Vegas. With a T65 last week tacked on, Hurley is one for fantasy owners to watch next season if they need a sleeper. He's 15th on the PGA Tour in driving accuracy and 16th in greens in regulation.

Kevin Tway, +16 - Tway's three finishes are not impressive at all - a T40 at the Frys.com Open followed by two missed cuts at McGladrey and Mayakoba, but when you start as far down the list as he did (44th), one solid finish can go a long way. Tway is 12th in total putting on the PGA Tour.

Knox, +14 - Knox, who besides being fourth on the Reshuffle List is also 33rd on the FedEx Cup points list, has gotten off to a great start, making all four cuts in the events he entered with solid finishes in all four: T26-T30-T32-T31. Helping achieve those solid finishes is a very consistent game that is 14th in the All-Around Ranking, showing that all facets were firing nicely in the fall portion of the 2013-14 season.

Biggest Losers

Edward Loar, -26 - Loar's season has gotten off to an atrocious start, as he missed the cut in all four events he entered and saw his Reshuffle List position drop from a solid seventh all the way to 33rd. The culprits appear to be his driving accuracy, which is 146th (for perspective only 171 players teed it up this fall), and his greens in regulation, which is even worse at 168th. Improving his driving and iron play will be crucial if he hopes to have a successful year on the PGA Tour, a goal that has been made harder by the fewer playing opportunities he'll get due to the poor reshuffle result.

Patrick Cantlay, -25 - Cantlay also does not have one FedEx Cup point, but poor play is not his root cause. For him it's a back injury that kept him out of most of the Web.com Tour Finals (a second-place finish at the first event clinched his card and allowed him to miss the next three to heal up) and the entire fall portion of the 2013-2014 PGA Tour season. The good news is that he has PGA Tour card. The bad news is that he's now 34th on the Reshuffle List, has fewer opportunities to get into events and might even need help from a sponsor's exemption or two to have a chance to keep that card.

Brad Fritsch, -23 - Fritsch also has had injury issues that have prevented him from playing. For him it's a bulging disk in his back that forced him to withdraw from the Frys.com Open on Saturday morning. He did tee it up at Sea Island a couple weeks back, however, but missed the cut after consecutive rounds of 74.

Scott Gardiner, -21 - Gardiner, meanwhile, is purely the victim of poor play, as he's made four starts and missed the cut in three. His only finish was a T36 last week in Mexico but that wasn't good enough in what's been a poor start to his newest campaign on the PGA Tour. Statistically, his issue is his putting, as he's 141st in strokes gained-putting.

Andrew Svoboda, -18 - It's an almost mirror image for Svoboda, though his drop is a little less precipitous because his one finish was a Top-25, a T15 in Vegas last month. Nothing horrible stands out statistically except for his 121st-place finish in sand save percentage, though a scrambling ranking of 96th place certainly isn't helping his cause.

The Nothing Men

In addition to the bottom five, these players also have zero FedEx cup points: Loar, Cantlay, Brad Fritsch, Troy Merritt, Andrew Loupe, Bobby Gates, Bronson La'Cassie, Daniel Chopra, Alex Prugh, Miguel Angel Carballo and Jim Renner. Of those, all but Chopra, Cantlay have made starts so far in this wrap-around season.

An Update on the Will They Ever See a Tournament? Guys
