The Reshuffle List: Ecstasy and Heartbreak

The conclusion of the Wyndham Championship on Sunday ended the PGA Tour regular season and served as either a big sigh of relief or a big wake-up call to numerous players on the Reshuffle List. Golfers in the Top 125 on either the FedEx Cup points list or money list can breathe easy knowing they have a place to play in the 2013-2014 season. And those who made it via the FedEx Cup points list can now go after a $35 million FedEx Cup playoffs bonus pool.

However, those who failed to meet that fate and finished from 126-200 in points now must gear up for a grueling four weeks when they'll face the top 75 players from the Web.com Tour money list yearning to take their place. Only 25 spots are available, so many will go home disappointed.

And then are those Reshuffle List players who failed to stay within the Top 200 on the FedEx Cup points list. They aren't going anywhere except home, knowing their 2014 will probably begin on the Web.com Tour, with an uncertain future ahead.

Here's who experienced Ecstasy and Heartbreak at the end of the 2013 PGA Tour regular season.

ECSTASY

Via Graduation:

Patrick Reed - Reed decided to take his "Mr. Monday" attitude (he Monday-qualified a staggering six times on the PGA Tour in 2012) into the Wyndham Championship and it paid off, beating Jordan Spieth in a playoff to claim his first PGA Tour victory. Now the kid who won two national championships for Augusta State gets to go back to Augusta to play in The Masters next year, along with all the other perks that come with a PGA Tour victory.

Notables:

Steven Bowditch - Bowditch needed a strong finish down the stretch - including two birdies in his final six holes - en route to a Sunday 67 at the Wyndham Championship to make sure he kept the 125th and final spot on the FedEx Cup points list, which happened to be the same spot he entered the week at. He did it, and now heads to the playoffs.

Morgan Hoffmann - One of the better, quieter stories of the second half of the PGA Tour season is Hoffmann. Since May, he's had three top-10s and was in the money in his final six starts of the regular season. That's the definition of a strong finish from a rookie.

Erik Compton - It was good to see Compton, the double-heart transplant recipient, make the playoffs and keep his card for next season. He enters the Playoffs 117th on the FedEx Cup points list and hasn't played his best golf lately, but if you're looking for someone to root for - or a fantasy sleeper for that matter - this may be your man.

Notables:

Robert Streb - Streb has the unfortunate distinction of finishing 126th on the FedEx Cup points list. That does afford him conditional status on the PGA Tour next season (15 starts or so), and, of course, he has The Finals to try to get his card back, but still no one likes being the first one out, especially after shooting a Sunday 69 to give yourself a chance. He missed an 11-foot birdie putt on the 18th that would have sent him to Liberty National.

Andres Gonzales - Gonzales made a huge move at the Wyndham Championship, shooting a Sunday 64 to tie for eighth, vaulting him from 238 into the top 198. This gives him exactly what he was hoping for: a ticket to The Finals and a fighting chance to keep his PGA Tour card for one more year.

Money List Near Misses:

Fabian Gomez - Gomez, who tied for second earlier this year at the Puerto Rico Open, finished 133rd on the FedEx Cup points list but was 127th on the money list, roughly $13K behind the magic number. One obvious thing that hurt him: with the Puerto Rico Open being opposite a World Golf Championship event, it featured a smaller purse, so tying for second didn't carry the same weight as it might have in a regular PGA Tour event.

Justin Bolli - Bolli's 17 missed cuts in 23 starts seriously hurt his chances of keeping his PGA Tour card. He wound up ending the regular season 150th in FedEx Cup points but just 130th on the money list. Why such a discrepancy? He finished fourth at the HP Byron Nelson Championship, which carried with it a check for $321,600.

HEARTBREAK

Notables:

Andrew Svoboda - All is not lost for Svoboda. He won earlier this month on the Web.com Tour at the Price Cutter Charity Championship Presented by Dr. Pepper, and is 21st on the Web.com Tour money list with one event yet to be played. If he can stay in the Top 25 after this week's Cox Classic Presented by Lexus of Omaha, he'll return to the PGA Tour this fall.

THE NOTHING MEN UPDATE

Si Woo Kim - Kim's birthday bad luck in the end cost him a chance to retain his PGA Tour card for next year. After turning 18 he got six starts but missed the cut in all six, and as a result will look at the Web.com Tour as his place to play next year after having made no money on the PGA Tour. He has made little more than $19K in six Web.com Tour starts this season.

Donald Constable - Constable ends the regular season with the unfortunate distinction of being the only PGA Tour player to play a full schedule and make not one penny. He made 16 starts and missed the cut in all 16, shooting in the 60s just five times. Ranking 100th or worse in every key stat category did not help his cause either. He'll most likely head to the Web.com Tour next year, where he has made just more than $4,000 in five Web.com Tour starts this year.
