This Week's Memorial Tournament

The first Memorial was held in 1976 with Roger Maltbie topping Hale Irwin in a playoff to settle the tie, which was even-par 288. The par-72 Muirfield Village Country Club course is well known to be one of a group of high quality and challenging venues. Jack Nicklaus designed the course with touches of Augusta National where appropriate.

The fields drawn by the Memorial are close to the majors and World Golf Championship events. This is a salute to the quality of the course and its consistency of maintenance. The 1987 Ryder Cup was held here as was the 1992 U.S. Amateur. This year's President's Cup, with 1998 winner Fred Couples as captain, will be played here in October.

Tiger Woods' wins here - 1999, 2000, 2001, 2009, 2012 - has him as first five-time winner.
Kenny Perry has three wins - 1991,2003, 2008.

In the PGA Tour's list of toughest courses for 2012, the Muirfield course was ranked sixth.
