PGA TOUR STATS: Deutsche Bank Championship

Each week we'll list the statistical breakdown of the upcoming PGA Tour event. Below are the results of recent tournaments, including last week's Barclays, and results from results from last year's Deutsch Bank Championship.

The results grid was reduced for easier reading, starting with the U.S Open. However, the AVERAGE statistics at the bottom of the grid reflect data from completed 2012 tournaments.

Last Week's Barclays

Round one wasn't tough, and the second signaled that the course could be tough. The third round had eight cups positioned less than 10 paces from the front of the greens. There were very few birdies at these front-hole greens. The fourth round took no prisoners as expected.

Overall, Bethpage Black lived up to its tough track reputation

In the third round, greens were fast - real fast - with Sergio Garcia call them, "some of the fastest greens I've ever played." They also carried speedy greens in round four. It was easy for a lag putt to contribute to a 3-putt hole.

Again back in the third round, Tiger Woods had a career negative experience as he 3-putted four times in one round, never before in any round. His usual M.O., he has said, is to whatever he can to avoid double bogeys.

The 193-yard par-3 17th hole didn't give up a birdie in the third round until Nick Watney chipped in from the fringe. Some 75 top-notch pros can tell you about No. 17 being tough.

After the third round, Sergio Garcia said he was skipping the upcoming Deutsche Bank Championship to conserve energy for the rest of the season and the Ryder Cup. We won't know if Sergio ran out of gas in advance during his closing round.

One hundred FedEx Cup survivors of Bethpage Black move on to TPC Boston for the Deutsche Bank Championship.

The vise is tightening this week with 100 players moving into the Deutsche Bank Championship. Last year's winner, Webb Simpson, had missed the cut in two previous starts at this event but was still "on" after his initial PGA Tour win at the Wyndham Championship the week before.

Scores at TPC Boston tend to cluster with 2011's top-10 extended over 15 spots with six players 9-under, just six shots from first place. The course has reachable par-5s and shortish par-4s. Players racked up 47 eagles last year.

Last Five Winners and Runners-Up:

2011 - Webb Simpson, 15-under 269 P1 (Chez Reavie, 15-under)
2010 - Charley Hoffman, 22-under 262 (Geoff Ogilvy, Jason Day, Luke Donald, 17-under)
2009 - Steve Stricker, 17-under 267 (Scott Verplank, Jason Dufner 16-under)
2008 - Vijay Singh, 22-under 262 (Mike Weir, 17-under)
2007 - Phil Mickelson, 16-under 268 (Brett Wetterich, Aaron Oberholser, Tiger Woods, 14-under)

In 2011 after 54 holes, Bubba Watson was 11-under while six others, including Simpson, were 9-under. Simpson closed with a 6-under 65 while Watson faded to a 3-over 74. Expect some surprises. Winner's score might follow any of the above.

Your roster should have players who are strong in total driving, hitting fairways and greens, adroit in scrambling around the greens, taking advantage of the par-5 holes while putting very well.

Last year's Low Rounds of the Day:

Round 1 - 6-under 65, Troy Matteson
Round 2 - 8-under 63, Adam Scott
Round 3 - 8-under 63, Phil Mickelson
Round 4 - 6-under 65, Webb Simpson (the best time for this)
