Best EuroLeague Bets for Friday, Jan. 9
We went 0-6 over the last two days, with some reads that wound up not even close. Instead of chasing losses, I'm doing what I would recommend to anyone in this spot, which is scaling back to 0.5 units per play until the rhythm returns.
Let's finish the double-game week strong and build some momentum heading into Round 22.
All odds for EuroLeague player props current as of 8:30 AM ET Friday.
PICKS TO CLICK
Glynn Watson Over 21.5 Points+Rebounds+Assists (+100 bet365)
Earlier in the week we targeted a Thomas Heurtel combo against Real Madrid, and he got there for us -- but barely. I was hoping Watson would have an off night so that we could attack a slightly deflated number, and that's exactly what happened.
Watson went just 6-of-13 from the field and posted only five peripheral stats in an uptempo game, which isn't ideal on the surface. However, what does stand out is that he once again led ASVEL in minutes and usage. Now he draws another fast-paced matchup against a Baskonia team that consistently plays fast.
Last time around we paired Huertel with Shaquille Harrison at 10+ points as insurance, because a hot Harrison game can negatively impact both Heurtel and Watson. I will likely do the same here. Harrison is +375 on DraftKings for 12+ points, which I view as a solid natural hedge. Let's just hope Edwin Jackson doesn't ruin all the fun.
Armoni Brooks Under 20.5 Points+Rebounds+Assists (-110 bet365) OR
Armoni Brooks Under 15.5 Points (-120 FanDuel)
What makes this uncomfortable? Brooks has been absurdly efficient this season, with multiple games of 16+ points in just 15-to-20 minutes. That said, this number is clearly inflated after his 36-minute, 24-point outburst earlier this week.
That performance came in a game in which Brooks was forced into a high-usage role with Shavon Shields, Leandro Bolmaro and Quinn Ellis all sidelined. The first two will be back Friday, and Ellis may be as well. On top of that, Brooks is coming off a heavy workload with just one day of rest.
I expect the minutes to be managed for Brooks, and if he beats us by making 80 percent of his shots over 22 minutes, so be it. I will still believe this was the correct read.
Donta Hall Under 7.5 Points (-115 bet365)
We're going under after a 27-minute, 16-point, 11-rebound night? Yes. I personally played his points ladder in that contest despite the value being poor for a rim runner, which is why I didn't recommend it publicly. I got lucky, and he smashed. But the situation is completely different Friday.
In Round 20, Hall had the center position almost to himself with none of Nikola Milutinov, Tyrique Jones nor Moustapha Fall available. On Friday, Milutinov and Jones both being active creates major competition for minutes at the center spot. I doubt we see the centers share the court much, as the Olympiacos system prioritizes spacing -- something none of them provide consistently.
