Another busy Wednesday of college basketball action is upon us, with DraftKings unveiling a seven-game slate for their $10 Big Jam contest with a $3k top payout. Over on FanDuel, there are six games on tap for their $7.77 All-American, with a first prize of $2k.
Targets
David Johnson, G, Louisville ($8,200 DK)
Johnson has been an efficient shooter for Louisville this season, connecting on 45 percent of his three-point attempts and has also been effective driving to the rim and scoring inside the arc. He's scored 17+ in over half of his games this season and fills the stat-sheet by averaging over six boards per game while also contributing four assists. With Johnson playing over 35 minutes in each of his last six games, he provides a great floor for cash games as well.
Denzel Mahoney, G/F, Creighton ($6,500 DK, $6,400 FD)
This game has the potential for both teams to reach the 80s, as neither team is particularly good defensively. Although Marcus Zegarowski and Damien Jefferson get a lot of the attention, Mahoney takes a higher percentage of the shots when he's on the floor. He's shown that he can score in a multitude of ways and also posted a double-double against UConn. Mahoney's ownership percentage in GPP's may be low after a rough performance in his most recent game, but he's shown that he can bounce back in the past.
Gabe Kalscheur, G, Minnesota ($5,400 DK, $5,700 FD)
The Minnesota/Michigan match-up highlights the highest over/under of the day, with both teams being able to score points in bunches. Although Kalscheur has struggled with his long-range shooting this season, he's still a 35 percent career three-point shooter who does most of his scoring from the perimeter. That's an area of weakness for the Wolverines, who have allowed opponents to shoot 36 percent from deep. Kalscheur has scored 20+ points seven times in his career already, so he certainly has the upside in GPP's with an efficient shooting night.
Fades
Liam Robbins, F, Minnesota ($8,900 DK, $7,900 FD)
Robbins is the most expensive player on the slate today after coming off a 27-point night against Ohio State in which he also posted 14 boards. Things won't come as easily tonight against a Michigan squad that has several big bodies, including one of the best players in the country in 7-1 center, Hunter Dickinson. Robbins also has a knack for getting into foul trouble which could limit his minutes. Too much risk for the high salary, even at a discount on FanDuel.
Devontae Shuler, G, Mississippi ($7,400 DK, $6,100 FD)
Shuler has regressed in his senior season to less than 40 percent from the floor thus far. He's been held to 12 or less points in four of his last five games and also has only produced at least five rebounds or assists twice this season. It's also important to note that Shuler is $1,300 more expensive on DraftKings, so if you're going to use him, you'll want to do it on FanDuel only. With Auburn struggling to defend the paint, KJ Buffen ($7,200 DK, $6,100 FD) is the preferred option on Ole Miss.
Umoja Gibson, G, Oklahoma ($6,000 DK, $5,700 FD)
Gibson is coming off his best performance of the season by far, in which he put up 29 points against West Virginia on the strength of eight threes. That's increased his salary by over $2k in time for a matchup against Baylor and one of the best defenses in the country. Gibson doesn't provide much in any of the other statistical categories and relies primarily on having a great shooting night to live up his price tag. That doesn't seem likely against the Bears.
