The Christmas Day NCAA Basketball slate has four Big Ten conference games on-tap, headlined by a showdown between Wisconsin and Michigan State to start the action. DraftKings features a $2k first prize in their $12 Heating Up contest, while FanDuel has a $1k grand prize in their $7.77 All American. Happy Holidays, everyone!
Targets
Teddy Allen, G, Nebraska ($7,000 DK, $7,300 FD)
You're not going to find many players in college basketball with better scoring ability than Allen. Some might be shy to take him as he's coming off arguably his worst game in a Nebraska uniform - fouling out while scoring 11 points in 25 minutes against a Wisconsin team that is one of the best in the country defensively. He'll get a bit of a softer match-up against Michigan and comes in with a second-tier salary. Allen has put up two 40+ point fantasy games already and should be one of the top scorers.
D'Mitrik Trice, G, Wisconsin ($5,500 DK, $6,000 FD)
It's not often you'll find a player who leads his team in minutes at a below average salary, but that's what we have here. Trice has also been active in the offense, taking nearly a quarter of the Badgers' shots. Michigan St. will look to push the tempo and has struggled to defend the perimeter, allowing 28 three-pointers in their last two games. It's hard to imagine Trice not living up to his salary as a result, with a 30-point fantasy day within reach on an efficient shooting day.
Jack Nunge, F, Iowa ($5,000 DK, $5,900 FD)
It's no surprise to see an Iowa game feature the highest over/under of the day, especially when they face off against a Minnesota team that plays at an even quicker pace than they do. Nunge's two games with the most minutes played have been against fast paced teams in Gonzaga and UNC, so it's likely he sees 20-25 minutes today. He's been a force on the glass that's shooting an efficient 68 percent from inside the arc. Nunge also gets a significant $900 discount on DraftKings.
Fades
Hunter Dickinson, F, Michigan ($7,600 DK, $7,100 FD)
Dickinson posted career-high's in points and minutes in Michigan's most recent game against Penn St., but the Nittany Lions play a small lineup and had no answer for him. He'll face tougher resistance against a bigger Nebraska squad that held Wisconsin's big men Micah Potter and Nate Reuvers to just 10 points apiece, so a three-point threat at a cheaper option like Eli Brooks ($5,400 DK, $5,900 FD) makes for a good pivot on the Michigan side. With Dickinson only averaging about 23 minutes per game, his margin for error to reaching 30 fantasy points is quite low.
Eric Ayala, G, Maryland ($6,500 DK, $6,500 FD)
Maryland gets a tough match-up against Purdue who plays at a slow pace and was able to hold Iowa to a season-low 70 points, leading to the lowest over/under on today's card. Ayala is coming off a 23-point performance against La Salle, but he struggled to shoot just 6-of-18 from the floor in two tougher games prior to that against Clemson and Rutgers. His rebound and assist numbers leave much to be desired as well.
Rocket Watts, G, Michigan St. ($5,900 DK, $5,700 FD)
This looks to be a difficult spot to plug Watts into your lineup against the Badgers who do their best to keep the possessions at a minimum and have also prevented an opposing team from reaching 70 points in a game this season. Watts has seen his minutes decrease in the last three games and he's not much help on the glass, nor has he forced a turnover all season. He also is only connecting on 40 percent of his field goal attempts.
