Cavaliers hold off Spurs, 117-115, in Sunday clash
The Cleveland Cavaliers outlasted the San Antonio Spurs, 117-115, at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse on Sunday afternoon.

It was a close contest throughout the entire 48 minutes, with both teams trading double-digit leads. It was the Spurs (5-30) who rushed out to an 11-2 start before the Cavaliers (21-15) clawed back to win the second quarter by 10 points and took a six-point lead into halftime. Both teams exchanged buckets in the third quarter, but Cleveland went on 14-2 run in the fourth quarter and withstood a furious San Antonio comeback attempt down the stretch to secure their third straight win, while the Spurs have now lost five in a row.

Five Spurs players finished Sunday’s game in double-digits. Victor Wembanyama led San Antonio with 24 points -- including 10-for-11 from the free throw line -- along with 10 rebounds, three assists and five blocks while finishing with a team-high plus-17 point differential. Devin Vassell chipped in 22 points, two rebounds, two assists and three steals, while Tre Jones added 18 points, two rebounds, five assists and two steals. Keldon Johnson led the bench with 18 points, four rebounds and two assists, while Jeremy Sochan added 11 points, five rebounds and four assists.

Jarrett Allen led the Cavaliers in scoring for the second time this season and finished with 29 points, 16 rebounds and two assists. Donovan Mitchell added 17 points, two rebounds and nine assists. Caris LeVert led Cleveland’s bench with 23 points, two rebounds, three assists and two steals, while Sam Merrill added 18 points, three rebounds and three assists in reserve. Georges Niang contributed 11 points and four rebounds off the pine.

With Sunday’s game in the books, the Spurs will wrap up their two-game road trip against the Detroit Lions on Wednesday, while the Cavaliers will take on the Brooklyn Nets at the Accor Arena in Paris, France on Thursday.

Trail Blazers Top Nets After Overtime
The Portland Trail Blazers defeated the Brooklyn Nets after overtime, 134-127, at Barclays Center on Sunday.

The Trail Blazers (10-25) escaped with a huge road win over the Nets (16-21) in a game that needed extra time to find a winner. Portland had to work hard, however, and they came back from an eight-point deficit in the fourth quarter to come away with the victory. The Nets enjoyed a solid start following a 30-26 score in the opening 12 minutes, but Portland kept things close following a 24-22 score in the second quarter. The Nets would pull away for good in the third quarter after a 41-35 score, and they held an eight-point advantage leading to the final 12 minutes. However, Portland responded when the team had its backs against the wall. A 30-22 score in the fourth quarter allowed them to force overtime, and Portland also looked the better team in those extra five minutes. Carrying the momentum from the fourth-quarter comeback, Portland edged Brooklyn by a 19-12 score in the final five minutes to secure the victory. With the win, the Blazers moved to 5-14 on the road, while the Nets fell to 10-9 at home.

Anfernee Simons led the way for the Blazers with 38 points and 11 assists. Jerami Grant notched 27 points. Duop Reath had 15 points and 13 rebounds. Scoot Henderson delivered 10 points, four assists and three rebounds. Shaedon Sharpe impressed off the bench and finished with 21 points across 40 minutes. Malcolm Brogdon posted 18 points, three rebounds and two assists coming off the bench.

Mikal Bridges, who forced overtime with a clutch jumper, led the Nets with 42 points, four rebounds and three assists. Cameron Johnson delivered 17 points, six rebounds and three assists. Nic Claxton had another double-double after posting 16 points and 11 rebounds, though he also added three assists, four blocks and two steals. Spencer Dinwiddie had five points (1-6 FG). Day’Ron Sharpe notched 11 points and six rebounds. Dennis Smith Jr. had a 10-point, 10-assist double-double off the bench.

Magic Secure Win Over Hawks After Overtime
The Orlando Magic defeated the Atlanta Hawks after overtime, 117-110, at Amway Center on Sunday.

The Magic (20-15) moved to 12-4 at home with the win, while the Hawks (14-20) fell to 9-11 when playing on the road. Orlando was the better team early on and jumped to a 32-28 score in the first quarter. Atlanta responded with a 32-19 score in the second quarter and was carrying all the momentum by the time the first half ended. However, the Hawks could not maintain that pace in the second half, and the Magic recovered the lead following a 34-18 score in the third quarter. The Magic were holding a seven-point lead entering the final 12 minutes, but the Hawks didn’t give up, and they ultimately forced overtime when Saddiq Bey tied the game with less than 20 seconds left in the fourth. The Magic were the better team in overtime, however, outscoring the Hawks to ease their way to victory.

Paolo Banchero led the way for the Magic with 35 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and three steals. Caleb Houstan posted 25 points and four assists. Jalen Suggs finished with 16 points, five rebounds and three assists. Goga Bitadze posted 11 points, 14 rebounds and three assists. Moritz Wagner delivered 15 points and seven rebounds off the bench.

Trey Young led the way for the Hawks with 31 points, nine assists and four rebounds. Dejounte Murray had 24 points, six rebounds and two assists. Jalen Johnson finished withy 12 points, 11 rebounds and four assists. Saddiq Bey had 16 points, seven rebounds and two dimes. Bogdan Bogdanovic had 18 points and four steals coming off the bench.

Pelicans Decimate Kings, 133-100
The New Orleans Pelicans defeated the Sacramento Kings, 133-100 at Golden 1 Center on Sunday evening.

The Pelicans (22-15) opened the game hot and didn't take their foot off the gas until the fourth quarter, expanding a 12-point first-quarter lead to 25 by halftime. New Orleans then dominated the Kings (21-14) to an even greater degree during a third quarter in which they forged a 31-14 advantage, setting up the easy win.

CJ McCollum led the way for the Pelicans with 30 points, adding seven rebounds, four assists and two blocks. Jonas Valanciunas and Brandon Ingram generated matching 15-point contributions while posting 12 rebounds and eight assists, respectively. Dyson Daniels furnished 14 points, six assists and five rebounds. Jordan Hawkins delivered 12 points, three boards, two assists and one block. Trey Murphy and Naji Marshall supplied matching 11-point tallies while recording five assists and six rebounds, respectively.

Domantas Sabonis paced the Kings with a 17-point, 10-rebound double-double that also included six assists and one steal. Kevin Huerter matched Sabonis' scoring and added three assists, one rebound, one steal and one block. Keon Ellis turned in 13 points and two rebounds. Sasha Vezenkov managed 11 points and two boards, while Harrison Barnes and Kessler Edwards offered 10 points apiece.

The Pelicans remain on the road and visit the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday night, while the Kings hit the road and tangle with the Detroit Pistons on Tuesday night.

Mavericks Top Timberwolves, 115-108
The Dallas Mavericks defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves, 115-108, at American Airlines Center on Sunday night.

The Mavericks (22-15) and Timberwolves (25-10) unsurprisingly played a tightly contested first half, with Minnesota down by only four points at halftime. However, Dallas was able to expand its advantage to nine going into the final period, but the visitors clawed all the way back to take a six-point edge with just 3:53 remaining. Nevertheless, the hosts' furious 15-2 run over the final 3:30 sealed the seven-point victory.

Anthony Edwards led the Timberwolves with a 36-point, 10-rebound double-double that included three assists, three steals and one block. Karl-Anthony Towns delivered 24 points, seven rebounds, one assist and two blocks. Naz Reid supplied 15 points and nine boards. Rudy Gobert provided nine points, 17 rebounds, one assist and one steal. Mike Conley matched Gobert's scoring and added seven assists.

Kyrie Irving paced the Mavericks with 35 points, supplementing them with eight rebounds, five assists, three steals and two blocks. Luka Donic followed with 34 points, eight assists, six rebounds and one steal. Derrick Jones and Tim Hardaway generated matching 12-point, one-assist efforts while adding 10 and four rebounds, respectively.

The Timberwolves remains on the road and faces the Orlando Magic on Tuesday night, while the Mavericks remain home and tangle with the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday night as well.

Nuggets Hold Off Pistons In Denver
The Denver Nuggets defeated the visiting Detroit Pistons, 131-114, at Ball Arena on Sunday evening.

The game got out to a competitive start, and the hosts held a two-point lead after one quarter. The Pistons kept up the pace and grabbed a brief lead in the second, before the Nuggets rallied to an eight-point advantage heading into halftime. The Nuggets took their play to another level in the third and outscored the visitors, 43-28, in the quarter to take a 23-point advantage into the final quarter. The Pistons kept up the fight in the fourth but the deficit was too much to overcome, as they fell for their fourth straight loss. This also marks the third win in four games for the Nuggets.

Jamal Murray led the Nuggets with 37 points, five rebounds, four assists, a steal and a block, in 30 minutes. Michael Porter and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope followed up with 18 points each, while Peyton Watson added 15 points, six rebounds, a steal and a block.

Meanwhile, Jalen Duren led the Pistons with 20 points, five rebounds and four assists, in 30 minutes. Alec Burks followed up with 18 points and four rebounds, while Bojan Bogdanovic totaled 14 points and three steals.

The Pistons (3-33) will look to bounce back as they play host to the Kings on Tuesday. The Nuggets (26-12) take on the Jazz in Utah on Wednesday.

Grizzlies Close Out Second Straight Win
The Memphis Grizzlies defeated the host Phoenix Suns, 121-115, at Footprint Center on Sunday evening.

The Suns got out to a strong start and held a, 32-26, lead after one quarter. The Grizzlies picked up their play in the second but after a couple of lead changes, the Suns took a five-point lead into the break. The score stayed close early in the third, and the Grizzlies grabbed a brief lead again, before the hosts rallied to an 11-point lead entering the final quarter. The visitors turned it up in the fourth and overtook the lead less than four minutes into the quarter. The Suns kept fighting and reclaimed an edge with three minutes to go, but the Grizzlies closed the game on an, 11-3, run to secure their second straight win. This also marks the second loss in three games for the Suns.

Jaren Jackson led the Grizzlies with 28 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and a block, in 32 minutes. Marcus Smart followed up with 25 points, six rebounds, eight assists and three steals, while Desmond Bane added 23 points, five rebounds, five assists, a steal and a block.

Meanwhile, Devin Booker led the Suns with 24 points, eight assists, two steals and a block, in 37 minutes. Kevin Durant followed up with 23 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and a block, while Jusuf Nurkic logged 18 points, 19 rebounds, five assists and a block.

The Grizzlies (13-23) clash with the Mavericks in Dallas on Tuesday. The Suns (19-17) will look to bounce back as they take on the Clippers in L.A. on Monday.

Raptors Defeat Warriors, 133-118
The Toronto Raptors defeated the host Golden State Warriors, 133-118, at Chase Center on Sunday.

Toronto scored the first seven points in this game, never relinquishing the lead in this wire-to-wire win. They got out to a 36-28 lead after the first quarter and put it away with a 40-21 second quarter. The Raptors led by at least nine points for the final 30 minutes, getting their lead up to 27 points. Toronto shot 59 percent from the field and 46 percent from three-point range while holding Golden State to 46 percent from the field and 30 percent from long range. The Raptors out-assisted the Warriors, 38-30, while outscoring them in fastbreak points, 24-6.

The Raptors (15-21) were led by RJ Barrett, registering 37 points, six rebounds and six assists. Pascal Siakam provided 16 points, six rebounds, six assists and two blocks. Jakob Poeltl totaled 14 points, 11 rebounds and five assists, while Immanuel Quickley collected nine points, five rebounds and 10 assists. Chris Boucher led the bench with 17 points and nine boards.

The Warriors (17-19) were led by Klay Thompson, tallying 25 points and three assists. Trayce Jackson-Davis amassed 16 points, 11 rebounds, two assists and three blocks. Jonathan Kuminga compiled 13 points, four rebounds and four assists. Stephen Curry shot 2-of-14 from the field and 0-of-9 from three-point range to finish with nine points and six assists. Moses Moody led the bench with 21 points.

Lakers Defeat Clippers, 106-103
The Los Angeles Lakers defeated the visiting Los Angeles Clippers, 106-103, at Crypto.com Arena on Sunday.

There were six ties and 10 lead changes in this game, with neither team leading by more than 10 points. That was the Lakers near the beginning of the fourth quarter, riding a 32-24 third quarter to their win. They never relinquished the lead in that final frame. The Clippers had a game-tying attempt at the buzzer, but that shot went in-and-out. The Lakers shot 51 percent from the field and 38 percent from three-point range, while the Clippers shot 40 percent from the field and 38 percent from long range. The Lakers also outscored the Clippers in the paint, 46-40.

The Clippers (22-13) were led by Paul George, providing 22 points, four rebounds, three assists and five steals. Ivica Zubac amassed 22 points and 19 rebounds. James Harden had 15 points, four rebounds and nine assists, while Kawhi Leonard had 15 points, eight rebounds, two assists, three steals and two blocks. Norman Powell led the bench with 14 points and two steals.
