This article is part of our MLB Picks series.
Previous article: 1-3, -2.00 RW Bucks
Season: 66-66-5, -4.44 RW Bucks
I'll strive to get back up over .500 by focusing on two heavy home favorites but avoiding the heavy juice on their moneylines by focusing on margin of victory and banking on strong performances by their left-handed starters.
Baltimore Orioles at Toronto Blue Jays 7:07 PM ET
Starting Pitchers: Matt Harvey vs. Steven Matz
The Pick: Blue Jays -1.5 (-125 on BETMGM Sportsbook) for 1 RW Buck
Secondary Pick: Orioles Under 3.5 runs (-104 on FanDuel Sportsbook) for 1 RW Buck
Harvey has started to show signs of regression again after a positive stretch, as he's pitched to a 6.75 ERA and 2.3 HR/9 over his last three starts. However, the even bigger problem is the Orioles bullpen, which furnished an MLB-worst 7.69 ERA and allowed an AL-high .363 wOBA in August. Meanwhile, Matz owns a 1.06 ERA and 0.88 WHIP in his last three turns and faces a Baltimore squad with a .213 average, .265 OPS, .278 wOBA and -10.6 wRAA versus lefties on the road in the second half.
Pittsburgh Pirates at Chicago White Sox 8:10 PM ET
Starting Pitchers: Max Kranick vs. Carlos Rodon
The Pick: Alternate run line: White Sox -2 (-145 on DraftKings Sportsbook) for 1 RW Buck
Secondary Pick: Pirates Under 3.0 runs (-122 on FanDuel Sportsbook) for 1 RW Buck
Kranick pitched to a 7.20 ERA and 1.70 WHIP over his first 20 major-league innings before being sent back down to Triple-A, and he returns to a matchup against a White Sox squad that boasts a .351 wOBA against right-handed pitching at home in the second half of the season. Then, the Pirates bullpen posted a 5.32 ERA in August, while Rodon owns an 0.84 WHIP and 0.6 HR/9 at home and faces a Pittsburgh team with a .271 wOBA and -9.1 wRAA against southpaws on the road in the second half.
