FanDuel MLB: Wednesday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Wednesday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Pitcher

Brock Stewart, LAD vs. ARI ($6,500): Stewart validated some of the hype last time out with a scoreless five innings and eight strikeouts against the almighty Cubs offense. The return of A.J. Pollock helps the Diamondbacks lineup to an extent, but the fact remains that over the past month they've been under the league average in terms of both wRC+ and K-rate. There are some elite pitchers on this slate but Stewart brings enough K-upside to possibly justify his utilization as a GPP pitcher. At this price, he opens up a world of possibilities with your bats.

Catcher

Sandy Leon, BOS at SDP ($2,700): The numbers still don't seem sustainable, but the fact is that at this price that doesn't even matter. Leon could very realistically slot into the fifth spot in the order if Ortiz sits and his 151 wRC+ over the past month is undeniably very good. He's even hit three home runs during that span.

First Base

Hanley Ramirez, BOS at SDP ($3,500): With Ortiz potentially sitting out the interleague matchup with the Padres, Ramirez should get a positive move up into the cleanup spot in the order. Over the past 30 days Ramirez is sporting a 151 wRC+ and .269 ISO. Opposing pitcher Jarred Cosart gave up seven runs in just 4.1 innings of work last time out.

Second Base

Dustin Pedroia, BOS at SDP ($3,500): The Red Sox offense is elite and Cosart is very much not elite. August was very good for Pedroia as he turned in a 165 wRC+ along with a sneaky two stolen bases.

Third Base

Adrian Beltre, TEX at SEA ($3,400): Opposing pitcher Ariel Miranda has permitted a 5.62 xFIP and 1.99 HR/9 to right-handed batters this season, while Beltre is now the owner of a spectacular 166 wRC+ against southpaws on the season. Doesn't take much to realize those two things combine to make a wonderful matchup for the third baseman.

Shortstop

Jose Iglesias, DET at CHW ($2,400): Cameron Maybin's recent injury has opened up a spot for Iglesias at the top portion of the powerful Detroit lineup. Jose Quintana is a solid pitcher but he's been very hittable against righties, giving up a 4.24 xFIP and 1.07 HR/9 to them on the season. He hasn't showcased it of late, but Iglesias possesses some ability in the base stealing department as well.

Outfield

Andrew McCutchen, PIT vs. STL ($3,300): Mike Leake has flirted with some good runs of starts, however August yielded a 4.50 xFIP that is primed for exploitation. The season on the whole hasn't been ideal for McCutchen, but he was the Pirates' best hitter over August with a 136 wRC+. He has two stolen bases during that span too, which is one more than teammate Gregory Polanco.

Raimel Tapia, COL vs. SFG ($3,500): This may seem hefty for such a new MLB call-up, who frankly may not be that good of a hitter as his 106 wRC+ is a little inflated by a large BABIP, but then again maybe it isn't. The fact is that Tapia can make contact, has speed and resides in the wonderful Coors Field. The Giants are forced to start Albert Suarez, who currently holds a 5.46 xFIP against left-handed batters on the season. Tapia gets the only specific mention here but the entire Rockies lineup is very much in play given the giant 12 over/under on this game.

Ian Desmond, TEX at SEA ($3,800): Can I just copy and paste what I said about Beltre? Desmond has "just" a 126 wRC+ against southpaws this season and he supplements it with a solid stolen base total.
