2025 Fantasy Outlook
Samuel Ersson and Ivan Fedotov were Philadelphia’s No. 1 and No. 2 options, respectively, in goal during 2024-25. They’re still under contract, so where does that leave Vladar, who signed a two-year contract with the Flyers over the summer? Vladar was okay, but not great as the backup with Calgary in 2024-25, posting a 12-11-6 record with a 2.80 GAA and a .898 save percentage in 30 outings. However, Ersson and Fedotov are coming off rough campaigns, and if you compare them in terms of goals saved above expected last season, Vladar is the only one with a positive number, even if it is a modest 0.9. This should be seen as an open competition, and while Vladar has a solid chance of entering the campaign at the top of the depth charts, his position will likely be far from secure, so he’s not a safe option for starts. Named Opening Night starter
Vladar will start Thursday's Opening Night matchup on the road against Florida, Charlie O'Connor of PHLY Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
Vladar was the first goalie off following Thursday's morning skate, and head coach Rick Tocchet officially named him the Opening Night starter afterward. Vladar made 30 regular-season appearances for Calgary last year, going 11-6-2 with a 2.80 GAA and .898 save percentage. Samuel Ersson will likely see the majority of starts for the Flyers this year, but it wouldn't be surprising to see the two netminders in some sort of timeshare.

Vladar spent the summer rehabbing hip surgery, which was timed so he could be ready to start 2024-25. Look past his 8-9-2 record from last season and his 3.62 GAA, .882 save percentage and -10.76 GSAx (goals saved above expected), too. Vladar should start the season as the Flames 1A and will mentor young phenom Dustin Wolf as they platoon behind a rebuilding squad. Expectations will be low, but he could deliver league-average totals in a 40-start season.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Likely to play full game
Vladar will start Monday's road preseason matchup against Boston and will likely play the full game, Charlie O'Connor of PHLY Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
The Flyers will likely give Samuel Ersson some rest Monday after he played the entirety of Saturday's preseason matchup, so Vladar should see plenty of run against the Bruins. Vladar should have an opportunity to begin the regular season as Philadelphia's No. 2 netminder, but he may need to stave off Aleksei Kolosov for playing time.
