He served in a top-four capacity and received time with the man advantage, roles he will more than likely retain heading into 2025-26. The 30-year-old blueliner managed 22:04 of ice time in 2024-25, his highest total since 2019-20, so he clearly earned the trust of Jets head coach Scott Arniel. Considering Pionk hasn’t had less than 32 points in each of the last five seasons, his increased responsibilities bode well for him having the potential to earn his second 40-point season. Pionk is a solid defenseman who provides a blend of skill and grit. He's recorded 32-45 points in each of his past five campaigns, including 2023-24 in which he finished with five goals and 28 assists. He also had 63 PIM, 118 blocked shots and 220 hits last season, which are all numbers he can replicate, though it wouldn't be shocking to see his PIM and hits dip slightly this season given his 2023-24 numbers represented career highs. The 29-year-old is entering the final season of his four-year, $23.5 million agreement with Winnipeg and is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent afterward. If that situation isn't resolved before the campaign begins, then he might have a little extra motivation as he pushes for a massive payday.
