Pitching Overview
This slate offers some nice options for both owners who like to pay for pitching and those who spend big on hitters, as the priciest pitching options possess favorable matchups along with enticing cheaper options.
Shane Bieber ($11,400) against the Royals, Aaron Nola ($10,700) in Miami and Trevor Bauer ($10,400) in Pittsburgh should all live up to their lofty valuations against offenses ranked no better than 20th.
Among cheaper pitchers, Rangers lefty Brock Burke ($6,700) looked excellent in his major-league debut Tuesday by holding the Angels to six base runners in six scoreless innings. He gets a great opportunity to build off that performance against the 27th-ranked White Sox' offense.
Another appealing lefty is Minnesota's Martin Perez ($6,700). He's in the midst of a pedestrian campaign where he's posted a 4.60 ERA, 4.64 FIP, 18.9 percent strikeout rate, but the visiting Tigers have made many a pedestrian pitcher look like an ace this season by averaging a league-low 3.63 runs and a league-high 10.0 strikeouts per game.
Value Plays/Chalk
The Indians, Astros and Diamondbacks are all primed for success against some vulnerable pitchers, but there's also plenty of value to be found outside of those three stackable lineups.
Rays' outfielder Austin Meadows ($3,700) is experiencing a power surge and the left-handed slugger's hot-hitting ways should continue against Orioles righty Dylan Bundy, who has surrendered a whopping 66 home runs in fewer than 300 innings since the start of last season.
Marlins' righty Elieser Hernandez has allowed a .419 wOBA to batters from the left side, and he's battling a blister heading into this start against Philadelphia. Phillies' outfielder Corey Dickerson ($3,200) brings a wOBA just under .400 into this favorable matchup, and that number should climb further here.
Rangers' leadoff man Shin-Soo Choo ($3,400) represents another outfielder primed to provide strong bang for the buck. He'll be facing White Sox righty Reynaldo Lopez, who's allowing a .368 wOBA to batters from the left side this year.
Stacks
Indians vs. Eric Skoglund (Royals)
Francisco Lindor (SS - $4,300), Carlos Santana (1B - $4,000), Oscar Mercado (OF - $3,200)
This is Skoglund's first major-league start of the season, and he hasn't exactly impressed with a 6.14 ERA and 6.48 xFIP at Triple-A Omaha. Cleveland has no shortage of effective batters from the right side ready to capitalize on this favorable matchup. The switch-hitting Lindor boasts a .387 home wOBA from the right side, while Santana's a switch-hitter who has registered a .411 overall wOBA from the right side. Mercado comes in with a home wOBA over .350 against lefties and occupies the fantasy-friendly two-hole in the batting order.
Astros vs. Jaime Barria (Angels)
Yuli Gurriel (1B - $3,400), Alex Bregman (SS - $4,200), Michael Brantley (OF - $4,000)
Barria has looked terrible in righty-on-righty matchups with a .424 wOBA allowed and downright atrocious on the road, where he has managed a .475 wOBA allowed to batters from the right side and 9.00 ERA over 34 innings. Gurriel has produced a wOBA over .380 against righties, which climbs to well over .400 at home. Bregman's over .390 in righty-on-righty matchups, while Brantley owns the traditional platoon advantage as a left-handed hitter and a wOBA over .400 against righties.
Diamondbacks vs. Zach Davies (Brewers)
Ketel Marte (2B - $4,000), Jarrod Dyson (OF - $2,700), Jake Lamb (3B - $2,800)
Left-handed batters have recorded a .348 wOBA against Davies, which climbs to .362 at Miller Park. Even with David Peralta (shoulder) out, Arizona doesn't lack for options on that side and are led by the switch-hitting Marte with his .388 wOBA from the left side. Dyson's .345 road wOBA is almost 100 points higher than his home mark, and the leadoff man remains a major threat on the base paths as he's already over the 25-steal mark for the seventh time in the past eight seasons. Lamb has also looked noticeably better away from home this season, with a road wOBA over .350.
