FanDuel MLB: Monday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Monday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Monday's DFS action kicks off at 1:35 PM EST with an all-day contest before giving way to a 10-game main slate at 7:05 PM EST. There are a few stud pitchers on the mound tonight and, while there's no game at Coors Field, there is one at Globe Life Park in Arlington where the Diamondbacks appear to be in great shape facing Bartolo Colon.

For those interested, we've started an MLB DFS Slack channel for paid RotoWire subscribers. (There is a season-long one as well.) To join those channels, e-mail support@rotowire.com.

PITCHER

Clayton Kershaw, LAD vs SFG ($10,800): While Kershaw is coming off a poor 19-point performance he'd been pretty solid over his previous five starts, posting at least 34 fantasy points in each game. The Giants have the 10th-worst wOBA (.302) and their .135 ISO is the sixth worst against left-handed pitching. With the Dodgers being around a -200 favorite in a game with an over/under of 7.0, the Giants have the lowest expected run total on Monday's slate.

GPP Fade: Zack Greinke, ARI at TEX ($10,200): Texas is one of the worst ballparks to be pitching in this time of the year, and Texas has a .319 wOBA this season against right-handed pitching, good for 11th best in baseball. Since the calendar turned to June, Texas has the second-best wOBA at home against righties with a .365 wOBA, putting Greinke in a tough spot. He has also had a rougher time on the road this season with a 3.52 ERA, as opposed to a 2.34 ERA at home.

Cheap GPP Consideration: Andrew Heaney, LAA at SD ($8,600): Heaney has become a pretty consistent starter heading into this matchup with the Padres, with seven straight starts of at least 21 fantasy points. He has 14 starts this season of at least 31 fantasy points (out of 21) including outings with 49, 49, 52 and 61 fantasy points, showing his upside. The Padres continue to be a good team to pick on, as they are in the bottom half of the league with a .306 wOBA against lefties, while their 24.1 percent strikeout rate is the third-highest mark in baseball.

FIRST BASE/CATCHER

Yonder Alonso, CLE at CIN ($3,100): Cleveland bats are definitely in play Monday night as they make the short trip to Cincinnati to take on Homer Bailey and the Reds. Bailey has given up a .363 wOBA this season to left-handed hitters (38.2 innings) after allowing a .356 wOBA last season (44.1 innings). After posting a .380 wOBA against right-handed pitching last season, Alonso is still putting up a solid .341 wOBA in 2018.

SECOND BASE

Niko Goodrum, DET vs CWS ($2,200): Goodrum comes into this game on a nice little fantasy tear with 22.2, 25.2 and 21.7 fantasy points over his last three games. He's got a nice power/speed combination at a weak position and his price is only $200 over the minimum. Reynaldo Lopez has allowed a .354 wOBA on the road this season leading to a 4.95 ERA.

THIRD BASE

Eduardo Escobar, ARI at TEX ($3,900): After homering Saturday, Escobar appeared to be getting the day off Sunday until he was called upon to pinch hit and homered. All of the lefty batters for Arizona are in a good spot tonight against Colon, who is giving up a .373 to that side of the plate at home this season. Escobar should be in a good RBI spot hitting cleanup and has a career-best .379 wOBA against right-handed pitching.

SHORTSTOP

Adalberto Mondesi, KC vs TOR ($2,900): Mondesi has shown improvement at the plate this season and has a .335 wOBA against right-handed pitching since July 1. His speed helps his fantasy prospects, as he's gone 12-for-15 in the stolen base department, and four home runs over 122 plate appearances is a good stat for a middle infielder. The Jays will send Sean Reid-Foley to the mound for his first big league start, a good matchup for Mondesi.

OUTFIELD

Mark Canha, OAK vs SEA ($2,300): Canha is an excellent source of upside tonight at a very cheap price, especially given his success against southpaws this season. His wOBA against that handedness sits at .396 and he'll get to face Marco Gonzales. Gonzales has a 4.42 ERA on the road this season, and Oakland isn't a bad team to stack with Canha, Khris Davis ($4,000), Marcus Semien ($3,000) and Chad Pinder ($2,200) all potential values.

Marcell Ozuna, STL vs WAS ($3,400): Ozuna will face off against Tommy Milone, and any time he's facing a lefty he's worth considering. Ozuna has a .354 wOBA this season against left-handed pitching, right in line with his .356 career mark. Milone has surrendered a .337 wOBA to opposing right-handed hitters over his career, and that number has been very bad over the last three seasons (.397 wOBA over 101 innings).

UTILITY

Daniel Palka, CWS vs DET ($2,700): Palka is a reasonably priced bat who should be hitting cleanup tonight and gets a nice matchup against Artie Lewicki. Palka has a .376 wOBA against right-handed pitching since July 1 and Lewicki isn't considered a great prospect. At Triple-A Toledo this season Lewicki has a 4.67 ERA, and his 4.76 ERA with the Tigers shows he's a good pitcher to target.
