Monday's DFS action kicks off at 4:07 p.m. EDT with the Marlins visiting the Mets. The main slate of games starts at 7:05 p.m. EDT featuring 12 contests.
Pitching
There are several good pitching options Monday, but Chicago's Lucas Giolito ($9,800) has the best matchup. He'll take on a Tigers team that has a .282 wOBA (second-worst) against right-handed pitching. Detroit also strikes out 26.5 percent of the time against that handedness, the second-highest in baseball. Giolito has 48 and 49 fantasy points in two of his last three starts and is averaging 37.8 fantasy points per game.
The other pitching option for cash games is the Rays' Charlie Morton ($10,100), who will face the Blue Jays at home. The Jays strike out 24.3 percent of the time against right-handed pitching, and their team .305 wOBA is the sixth lowest in baseball. Morton has a 2.77 ERA supported by a 0.97 WHIP and has a 12.6 K/9 at home this season.
The Mets' Walker Lockett ($5,600) is in a good spot at home against the Marlins. Miami has sole possession of the worst wOBA (.280) against right-handed pitching, and its 25.3 percent strikeout rate is the fifth-highest. Lockett isn't considered a top prospect, but this is all about the matchup. Using Lockett also allows you to fit multiple stud bats into a lineup with an average of $3,675 left to use on hitters.
Key Values/Chalk
The Brewers' Trent Grisham ($2,200) appears to be getting a chance to take over the leadoff spot for the team starting in that spot Sunday. Grisham posted excellent fantasy numbers at Triple-A this season (1.246 OPS), including 13 home runs and six stolen bases. Perhaps his best stat was his 22:23 K:BB, demonstrating a good batting eye at the plate. Grisham's opponent, Dario Agrazal, has allowed eight home runs in only 37 innings.
The Dodgers' Corey Seager ($3,000) is a viable option at the thin position of shortstop and gets a home matchup against righty Michael Wacha. That's the best split for Seager over his brief career ( .382 wOBA). Wacha's ERA sits at 5.15, and he's allowing a .370 wOBA to opposing hitters on the road.
It's a wise move to use the Reds' Eugenio Suarez ($3,600) whenever he's facing a lefty, and he'll get that matchup against the Angels' Patrick Sandoval. Suarez has a .474 wOBA against left-handed pitching at home this season and has an overall career mark of .375 against southpaws. Sandoval has struggled at Triple-A this season with a 6.41 ERA and a 1.98 WHIP.
The Pirates' Adam Frazier ($2,500) is worth consideration being at home facing former teammate Jordan Lyles. Frazier has a .361 wOBA against right-handed pitching at home this season while Lyles, whom Pittsburgh recently trade to Milwaukee, is struggling with a 5.15 ERA.
The Rays' Ji-Man Choi ($3,100) has become a popular DFS pick as the season has gone on. He has a .356 wOBA (.366 at home) against right-handed pitching, and that number was up to .384 during the month of July. He'll face rookie Jacob Waguespack, who had a 5.30 ERA and a 1.57 WHIP at Triple-A Buffalo before being called up.
Stacks
Rays vs. Blue Jays (Jacob Waguespack)
Ji-Man Choi (C/1B - $3,100), Austin Meadows (OF - $3,900), Tommy Pham (OF - $3,800), Mike Brosseau (2B - $2,500)
This will be one of the more popular stacks of the night considering the juicy home matchup for the Rays. Brosseau is something of a wild card here, but his salary helps work in Meadows and Pham. Brosseau had a .998 OPS at Triple-A Durham before his callup and 25.2, 28.2 and 43.9 fantasy points in three of his last 12 starts.
Indians vs. Rangers (Mike Minor)
Francisco Lindor (SS - $4,000), Jose Ramirez (3B - $3,700), Carlos Santana (C/1B - $3,800), Oscar Mercado (OF - $3,600), Jordan Luplow (OF - $2,400)
It doesn't make a lot of sense that Minor (3.24 road ERA) is a +173 underdog on the road in a game that has a 10.5 run over/under. However, Vegas usually knows what they're talking about, so five-plus runs should be expected from Cleveland. The trick here will be figuring out the right combination of the four players above. Mercado is the new face to the group, who is red-hot (.948 OPS over the last 21 days) while Luplow offers the best salary cap relief of the bunch.
