This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.
Players who are willing to do some digging will find value on both sides of the ball on Monday's main slate, which should allow them to zero in on high-priced options in quality matchups.
For those interested, we've started an MLB DFS Slack channel for paid RotoWire subscribers. (There is a season-long one as well.) To join those channels, e-mail support@rotowire.com.
Pitcher
Corey Kluber, CLE at KC (12,500): Kluber will take the mound Monday sporting the most effective cutter in the league (15.7 RAA) by a wide margin. This should be a tremendous benefit against the Royals, who have registered a bottom-5 RAA against the pitch this season. It is also worth noting that Kansas City owns the lowest wOBA against right-handed pitchers in the league.
Cheap GPP Consideration: Brent Suter, MIL vs. MIN ($6,500) Suter will try his hand against the Twins, who have notched a .302 wOBA against left-handed pitching this season while striking out 23.5 percent of the time. Suter has had a bit of trouble keeping the ball in the park at home but the Twins have logged a bottom-3 ISO against southpaws (.132).
GPP Fade: Madison Bumgarner, SF at COL ($11,300) Bumgardner has looked like his old self after a slow start to the season but there may not be a pitcher in the league worth his price in Colorado. Aside from the standard park concerns, Bumgarner's peripherals may still present some cause for concern, as he has tallied just a 7.9 percent swinging strike rate while allowing a 46.8 percent hard contact rate in five starts.
Catcher
Elias Diaz, PIT at LAD ($3,200): Diaz is a sneaky value option against left-handed pitching thanks to the .200 ISO and .420 wOBA he has tallied in 40 at-bats against his opposite hand this season. Alex Wood has thrown the ball well in his 16 starts but has still surrendered 10 homers and a 40 percent hard contact rate to right-handed hitters in 66 innings.
First Base
C.J. Cron TB at MIA ($3,600): Cron has done damage against lefty hurlers in 2018, as evidenced by the .218 ISO and 40 percent hard contact rate he has kept in 87 at-bats. Meanwhile, opposing starter Wei-Yin Chen has been crushed by opposite-handed hitters, surrendering a .543 slugging percentage and a .396 wOBA in 42 frames.
Second Base
Yoan Moncada, CWS at CIN ($4,300): It's hard to explain the struggles of Luis Castillo after his breakout year in 2017. The right-hander has registered a -15.1 RAA with his fastball while allowing a .533 slugging percentage against left-handed hitters. This should allow Moncada to have a significant advantage, as he has notched a 3.1 RAA against the heater to go along with a .206 ISO against righty hurlers.
Third Base
Jedd Gyorko, STL at ARI ($3,300): Gyorko has shown a dominant streak against southpaws in 41 at-bats this season, logging a .293 ISO and a .414 wOBA over that span. Robbie Ray has brought his usual mix of high walks and strikeouts to the mound after spending some time on the disabled list. He has logged a 4.01 ERA in 33.2 innings while surrendering a 46.7 percent hard contact rate against right-handed hitters.
Shortstop
Daniel Robertson, TB at MIA ($3,000): Miami will be a great place to look for cheap bats against
Chen, and Robertson may top the list, as he has notched a .230 ISO and a .382 wOBA versus left-handed pitchers in 61 at-bats. Chen's fastball has yielded a -5.8 RAA this season while Robertson has kept a 2.6 RAA against the pitch.
Outfield
Scott Schebler, CIN vs. CWS ($4,300): Schebler has been a consistent power source against righties in 2018, as we can see from the .213 ISO and the 41.6 percent hard contact rate he has tallied in 164 at-bats. James Shields owns a 1.7 HR/9 rate in 31.2 innings on the road this season. He has struck out just 18 batters over that span.
Michael Brantley, CLE at KC ($4.500): Brantley is looking like the player he is expected to be after back-to-back injury-plagued seasons, logging a .202 ISO and a .374 wOBA against right-handed pitchers in 213 at-bats. Jake Junis has pitched reasonably well against lefties in 2018 but a 5.16 xFIP in 42 innings is a fairly strong indication that worse results are around the corner.
Cody Bellinger, LAD vs. PIT ($4,600): Bellinger has begun to round into form after a slow start to the season and now owns a .242 ISO against righty pitching as well as a 38 percent hard contact rate in 198 at-bats. Nick Kingham has shown flashes of greatness in his rookie season but a 15.7 percent strikeout rate in 16.2 innings has contributed to a 4.95 xFIP against lefty hitters.
