Tournament Preview

The European Tour is in Malaysia this week for the Maybank Championship.  This is the third year in a row that it will be contested at Saujana G&CC in Kuala Lumpur.  The Palm Course, nicknamed, The Cobra consists of tree-lined and undulating fairways, with water hazards on about half of the holes.  The tifeagle bermuda greens are small and undulating as well, and there are bunkers throughout the course. The Cobra will test all aspects of the golfers' game.  Accuracy, along with approach shots and handling the sloping greens will be of particular importance this week.

DraftKings Picks

Jorge Campillo  - $11,000 (16/1)

Campillo is still looking for that first win on tour.  He has been extremely close recently, he finished T2 last time out in Qatar and also was T2 in Oman, the week prior.  He has the skill set for Saujana G&CC, which he demonstrated last year with a solo 2nd. He is an easy must play this week for me.

Mike Lorenzo-Vera  - $9,700 (22/1)

The Frenchman is having a stellar season thus far, making five out of six cuts with some high finishes.  The highest coming the last time he teed it up at Commercial Bank Qatar Masters, where he was T2. His iron play has been good, ranking 29th in greens in regulation this season.  I really like that he has been to Saujana G&CC the last two years and performed well. He finished T17 last year and T7 in 2017. He is another tour veteran playing well this season, looking for his first win.

Gaganjeet Bhullar - $8,000 (45/1)

It has been a dream start to the season so far for Bhullar, making every cut and cashing checks.  His lowest finish in seven tournaments this season is T40, and his highest was solo 5th. That came last week in Kenya.  I would assume his confidence is soaring at this point, as it should be. He finished T27th last year at Maybank Championship and T20 in 2017.  Both of those years he did not enter the tournament with the momentum he has this year. His approach game and putting are exactly what is needed this week.

Lee Slattery - $6,400 (200/1)

Slattery is the deep pick of the week.  After starting the season with a T11 at Afrasia Bank Mauritius Open, it has been four straight missed cuts.  The good news is that Slattery showed signs of his game turning around last time out at Commercial Bank Qatar Masters.  He finished T31 with two rounds in the sixties. He is obviously a risk with his odds being 200/1, yet is one of the more appealing choices this low in the pricing.
