2025 Fantasy Outlook
Schmaltz reached the 20-goal mark for a fourth straight year in 2024-25 and has topped 60 points in consecutive campaigns for the first time in his career. He ranked third on the team in points (63), power-play points (25) and shots on goal (186) in the first 82-game regular season of his career. He typically flies under the radar in most fantasy leagues but is often a solid waiver-wire addition. If Logan Cooley and Dylan Guenther don’t cut into Schmaltz’s ice time alongside Clayton Keller, the 29-year-old Schmaltz could reach the 60-point plateau again in 2025-26. Read Past Outlooks
Chips in with helper
Schmaltz distributed an assist, put two shots on goal and blocked two attempts in Monday's 4-2 loss to the Kings.
ANALYSIS
Schmaltz had the primary helper on Clayton Keller's goal midway through the final period. With the apple, Schmaltz is up to 15 assists, 26 points, 72 shots on net and 23 blocks through 31 games this season. His eight-game point drought through the end of November is firmly in the rear-view mirror as he has four points in his last three games. Despite his lack of points as of late, Schmaltz has upped his play on the other side of the puck with 12 blocks in his last nine outings. Both his offensive and defensive numbers could partially be attributed to his move to the top-line center role in the absence of Logan Cooley (lower body). With Cooley out indefinitely, Schmaltz will be relied upon in his new role up the center of the ice, giving him increased value in category fantasy leagues moving forward.

Schmaltz has been remarkably consistent over the past three years, finishing each campaign with 22-23 goals and 58-61 points. However, he was limited to 63 contests in each of 2021-22 and 2022-23, so the fact that he was relatively healthy last season while logging 79 games but didn't see a noteworthy corresponding increase in production -- he finished with 22 goals and 61 points -- is a little disappointing. Schmaltz will be in a different environment this season due to the former Arizona Coyotes moving to Utah, but this will be his sixth full campaign with this franchise, and he's gotten comfortable with this forward corps, so there's no reason to expect the 28-year-old to see any meaningful change over the coming campaign. In other words, he's a safe bet to record 20-25 goals and 55-65 points but has little upside beyond that.
