The numbers still weren't very good for Soderblom in 2024-25, but he took significant steps forward while playing in a career-high 36 games. He went 10-18-7 with a 3.18 GAA and a .898 save percentage for one of the worst teams in the league. Soderblom would have been poised to take over the No. 1 job this season, but Spencer Knight was acquired from Florida in March to be the primary goalie. Soderblom should have the inside track for the backup job, but this will be an important year for him, as he'll need to push Knight while fending off prospect netminder Drew Commesso. Tough shootout loss to Bolts
Soderblom turned aside 30 shots in regulation and overtime and two of five shootout attempts in Friday's 2-1 loss to the Lightning.

Nikita Kucherov was the only player to get a puck past Soderblom before the shootout. However, the 26-year-old Soderblom struggled with the extra point on the line, as Kucherov, Gage Goncalves and Dominic James all scored in the shootout. It was still the first time Soderblom had allowed fewer than two goals in a start since Nov. 9 against Detroit. He sports a 5-8-2 record in 16 outings this season with a 3.75 GAA and an .874 save percentage.

Soderblom struggled in 2023-24, posting a 5-22-2 record with a 3.92 GAA and a .879 save percentage across 32 appearances. He will get a chance to return to the minors to continue to work on his game after Chicago signed Laurent Brossoit to a two-year, $6.6 million contract in July. Brossoit and Petr Mrazek will handle the goaltending duties at the NHL level to begin the 2024-25 campaign. Soderblom could become an option for the Blackhawks if injuries occur, but he remains a difficult goaltender to trust for fantasy purposes.
