2025 Fantasy Outlook
Ibanez continued to serve in a utility role for the Tigers in 2024 but couldn't quite replicate his offensive success from a season earlier. The 31-year-old appeared at five different positions last year, including all four infield spots. This versatility is useful to Detroit, but Ibanez wasn't able to parlay it into much fantasy impact. He slashed .241/.295/.357 in 224 at-bats across 99 games. His .652 OPS was a marked decrease from the .745 figure he posted in 2023. Ibanez also saw his home run total decrease from 11 to five. The veteran has never run that much, as he has only six career stolen bases at the MLB level in nine attempts. That leaves Ibanez as a fairly low-ceiling option heading into 2025, and his outlook is further diminished by his part-time role. Ibanez could have some moments here and there, and his value would increase if he got more regular playing time at some point, but for the time being he's a utility player who probably doesn't need to be on too many fantasy rosters. Agrees to terms for 2025
Ibanez agreed to a one-year, $1.4 million contract with the Tigers on Friday to avoid arbitration, Francys Romero of BeisbolFR.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Ibanez took a step back during his second year with the Tigers, slashing .241/.295/.357 over 244 plate appearances during the regular season. However, the Tigers have deemed his performance worthy of a $633,900 raise from his previous salary. He's expected to remain in a utility role next year.

Ibanez had some good moments in 2023 for a Detroit team that needed a jolt on offense. The 30-year-old saw his most sustained run at the MLB level, batting .264 with a .745 OPS and 11 home runs across 114 games. By comparison, he came into the year with only 116 games under his belt across two seasons with Texas, and he had just eight career home runs. Ibanez's versatility helped him stay on the field, as he appeared at first, second and third base for the Tigers, as well as the corner outfield spots. Ibanez didn't walk a ton but he only struck out 18 percent of the time to go along with a solid 35% hard-hit rate. Heading into 2024, there are signs of optimism regarding the veteran's offensive game, and he figures to see a similar utility man role, which should allow him to get plenty of at-bats. If Ibanez can build on the strides he took last year, he could be primed for a solid 2024. He may not be on the radar in shallower leagues, though he could be worth keeping an eye on in deeper formats.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
In running for MLB roster
Ibanez is likely to be in the running for a spot on the Tigers' Opening Day roster, according to Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press.
ANALYSIS
Ibanez was pushed off the Tigers' 40-man roster in January, a few months after they claimed him off waivers from the Rangers, but Petzold writes that the Detroit higher-ups "can't wait to evaluate" the 29-year-old infielder this spring. Ibanez did serve as the Opening Day third baseman for Texas last season before ultimately slashing just .218/.273/.277 across 128 plate appearances. If he does make the squad, it will probably be in a utility role.
