Tournament Preview

This week the European Tour heads to the Gold Coast for the Australian PGA Championship at RACV Royal Pines Resort once again this year. The flat resort course is tree-lined, with water and bunkers throughout.  Locals have dominated this event. Accuracy and a good week of putting will be needed to hoist the trophy on Sunday. As always, recent form and course history will be considered in making picks.

DraftKings Picks

Jason Scrivener - $10,800 (11/1)

The field is top heavy with many good options from which to choose.  I'll take the savings and go with Scrivener at $10,800. He is accurate off the tee and accurate with his irons.  Last year, he finished T6 at Royal Pines and was T15 the year before that. Scrivener is good at avoiding bogeys, ranking third on tour.  This will be his first event of the new season. He finished last season with six made cuts in a row, and a T10 at the tour championship.

Wade Ormsby - $9,000 (33/1)

This will be Ormsby's first event of the season.  He enters the tournament following two made cuts to finish the 2019 season.  Ormsby has been hot and cold at Royal Pines. Last year he missed the cut but was T9 the year prior.  An accurate driver, he ranks 17th on tour. Ormsby is one of the best on tour around the greens and is ranked third in scrambling and seventh in SG: around the green.  He likes this time of year, his lone victory came in Hong Kong leading into the holidays.

Louis de Jager - $7,200 (50/1)

De Jager appears to be of good value in this field, given his odds.  The South African enters the tournament with momentum. He was T4 in Mauritius, shooting 64 on Sunday.  This will be his first time at the Australian PGA Championship. De Jager has a great short game and his putter tends to heat up.

Alejandro Canizares - $7,200 (125/1)

Canizares has shown some good form ending the 2019 calendar year.  He has made three of his last five cuts, missing out in Mauritius on the number.  Canizares is accurate off the tee, hitting over 61 percent of fairways and is one of the better putters on tour ranking high in all putting categories.  The Spaniard seems to be playing some inspired golf since his T17 in Spain  in October.
