DraftKings CFL DFS Picks: Week 20 Value Plays

DraftKings CFL DFS Picks: Week 20 Value Plays

This article is part of our DraftKings CFL DFS Picks series.

Quarterback

Jeremiah Masoli, HAM at MTL ($10,300): Masoli had shown considerable improvement in his current run as a starter, but he took his game to a whole other level in Week 19 against the Redblacks, exploding for 37.22 fantasy points on the strength of a 438-yard, four-touchdown performance. He could be primed for more fireworks in Week 20 at home against what will likely be a disinterested Alouettes squad that has been eliminated from playoff contention for several weeks. Montreal also checks in allowing the most points (32.2), third-most passing touchdowns (31), second-highest completion percentage (70.0), highest quarterback rating (95.3) and second-highest passing efficiency rating (105.3). Masoli has scored no less than 23.72 fantasy points in the last five games and will undoubtedly be looking to finish off the season on a strong note.

Ricky Ray, TOR at BC ($10,200): The Argonauts need a win on Saturday night to clinch the East Division title and host the Eastern Final on Nov. 19. Therefore, Ray should be out there guns blazing against a Lions squad that he racked up 327 yards against back in Week 2 and that could also be in an offseason mindset, given that the BC has been eliminated from postseason contention. The Lions have given up a robust 8.3 yards per pass and 291.1 passing yards per game, while Ray hasn't scored under 21.92 fantasy points in the last four games. He's also been better on the road, averaging 22.3 fantasy points and generating an 11:5 TD:INT over seven contests.

Andrew Buckley, CGY vs. WPG ($7,400): There are a number of affordable options to consider at quarterback in Week 20, but they all have their share of warts: Kevin Glenn and Brandon Bridge could well split reps once again for the Roughriders, Matt Shiltz of the Alouettes is likely to give way to Antonio Pipkin at some point and Dan LeFevour could be pulled in favor of Dominique Davis for the Blue Bombers as well. Meanwhile, Buckley could well play a full game in his role as the Week 20 starter in place of the resting Bo Levi Mitchell. He's seen limited action this season but comes cheap, and he'll face a Bombers squad that's allowed the second-most passing yards (330.6), most passing touchdowns (33) and second-highest average yards per pass (8.5).

Running Back

James Wilder, Jr., TOR at BC ($7,600): Wilder jumped back into action in Week 18 after a one-game absence and compiled 41.7 fantasy points on the strength of 197 total yards against the Blue Bombers. Like Ray, he'll be gunning to help the Argonauts clinch the East Division against a Lions defense that's allowed 15 rushing touchdowns and 4.9 yards per rush this season. Wilder also has a formidable role in the passing game, as his 30 catches over the last four games attest.

Chris Rainey, BC vs. TOR ($7,000): Rainey has upped his fantasy production in each of the last four games, scoring between 15.2 and last week's season-high 45.95 over that span. He's tallied between 109 and 254 return yards alone during that stretch as well and saw a season-high 22 touches on offense (including 16 rushes with Jeremiah Johnson out) in his Week 19 explosion versus the Blue Bombers. He should be the lead back once again in Week 20 with Johnson is listed as the third-string running back heading into the contest. The Argos have surrendered 16 rushing scores and 5.3 yards per carry this season as well, along with five return touchdowns and the second highest kick return average (23.3 yards).

Alex Green, HAM vs. MTL ($6,700): Green had a modest output in Week 19 with the passing game taking center stage, but he's still racked up four touchdowns over just five games. As mentioned in Masoli's entry, the Alouettes defense could well be in a giving mode, and they check in having surrendered 16 rushing touchdowns and the most rushing yards per game (117.4) in the CFL. Green also enjoyed some success against them in Week 18, compiling 13.6 fantasy points and a rushing touchdown over 15 touches.

Marcus Thigpen, SSK vs. EDM ($3,000): Thigpen is off the injured list and set to be the Roughriders' slotback in Week 20, considering both Cameron Marshall (knee) and Trent Richardson (undisclosed) are already ruled out. Meanwhile, teammates Kienan LaFrance ($5,500), who missed the Week 19 contest with an undisclosed injury, and Greg Morris ($3,900) haven't shown much upside and are more expensive. Thigpen has only seen action in a return capacity back in Week 13, and he could certainly be pulling triple duty Saturday night, considering his expected opportunity as both a rusher and receiver. Edmonton has been vulnerable both on the ground (98.4 rushing yards per game and 18 total rushing touchdowns allowed) and on special teams (CFL-high nine return touchdowns allowed , along with third-highest 12.0 yards per punt return surrendered).

Wide Receiver/Slotback

Brandon Banks, HAM vs. MTL ($8,800): Banks was an integral part of Masoli's 438-yard night in Week 19, as he posted career bests in receptions (13) and receiving yards (193). He also logged two touchdowns, giving him a season-high 48.45 fantasy points. That performance was the culmination of a torrid five-game stretch for the veteran speedster, one that had saw him score between 21.05 and 39.45 fantasy points over the prior four contests, with the high end of that sample having come against this same Alouettes defense in Week 18. Banks will be vying for his sixth consecutive 100-yard receiving effort, and given the vulnerabilities of the Montreal secondary detailed in Masoli's entry earlier, he appears to have an excellent chance of accomplishing the feat.

DeVier Posey, TOR at BC ($8,200): It can be hard to pinpoint whether S.J. Green or Posey will go off in head coach Marc Trestman's prolific passing attack on any given week, but the latter has the hot hand after scoring 20.8 fantasy points in Week 18 on the strength of a five-catch, 128-yard effort versus the Blue Bombers. The Lions' below-average numbers versus the pass were detailed in Ray's entry earlier, while Posey has shown some solid upside this season with two performances of over 30 fantasy points.

Chad Owens, SSK vs. EDM ($6,700): Owens could be in a prime spot against this week with Naaman Roosevelt (upper body) already ruled out and Duron Carter likely to spend most, if not all, of his time on defense. Owens has impressed in his two games with the Roughriders while hauling in passes from both Kevin Glenn and Brandon Bridge, posting 12.8 and 31.6 fantasy points, respectively. Those numbers have been generated by an impressive 14 catches for 192 yards and one touchdown, along with three rushes for 22 yards. Owens could see a modest rushing share again this week with backs Trent Richardson (undisclosed) and Cameron Marshall (knee) both sidelined, but his receiving role should be his primary vehicle to fantasy production. The Eskimos' numbers against the pass are generally impressive, but they have allowed the third-highest completion percentage (69.5) in the CFL.

Anthony Parker, CGY vs. WPG ($4,900): With Marquay McDaniel and Marken Michel both already ruled out in Week 20 due to undisclosed reasons, Parker's teammate DaVaris Daniels ($7,400) could be the lead target in the passing game and is worthy of consideration. However, given that Week 20 starting quarterback Andrew Buckley is a generally unknown quantity, spending up for a Stampeders receiver may not be the best strategy this week. Parker offers you exposure to the same unit at a significant savings, and the fact that he's coming off one of his best fantasy efforts of the season (14.0 fantasy points) is certainly a plus. Parker has shown some decent upside relative to price this season, scoring double-digit fantasy points in four contests altogether. With a matchup against a Blue Bombers secondary whose vulnerabilities were discussed in Buckley's entry earlier, he's worth a roll of the dice for GPPs.

Team Defense

Hamilton Tiger-Cats vs. Montreal Alouettes ($5,100): There's no need to overthink matters this week when it comes to defense. The Alouettes are eliminated from playoff contention and will be rolling out the likes of Matt Shiltz and Antonio Pipkin at quarterback. Meanwhile, starting running back Tyrell Sutton is listed as third on the depth chart for the season finale and the Tiger-Cats also compiled a season-high 16.0 fantasy points against this same Montreal squad in Week 18 on the strength of five sacks, two interceptions and a defensive touchdown. Hamilton has been playing much better defense over the last four games as well -- scoring between 6.0 and the aforementioned 16.0 fantasy points over that span – while the Alouettes have committed the most turnovers (40) and have allowed the second-most sacks (42), with the latter figure spelling trouble against a Tiger-Cats unit that's taken down opposing quarterbacks 44 times.
