DraftKings CFL DFS Picks: Week 16 Value Plays

DraftKings CFL DFS Picks: Week 16 Value Plays

This article is part of our DraftKings CFL DFS Picks series.

Quarterback

Ricky Ray, TOR vs. SSK ($10,400): Ray eviscerated the Roughriders secondary for 30.54 fantasy points on the strength of a 386-yard, three-touchdown effort in Week 6, and he's coming off a haul of 27.2 fantasy points versus the Tiger-Cats in Week 15. The Riders have also allowed 22 passing touchdowns -- as well as 22 completions of over 30 yards – while Ray has thrown for at least 300 yards in nine games and for multiple touchdowns in six contests.

Trevor Harris, OTT at BC ($9,500): Harris is on track to return from his shoulder injury in Saturday's contest versus the Lions, a team that he threw for 326 yards against in Week 10. The Lions give up 295.8 passing yards per game while also allowing the second-most yards per pass (8.4) and completions of over 30 yards (27). Harris has compiled over 20 fantasy points in three of the last five games that he's played all four quarters in, and he's averaging 25.4 fantasy points over five road contests.

Jeremiah Masoli, HAM at WPG ($8,700): Masoli's latest successful start consisted of a 288-yard, two-touchdown effort versus the Argonauts that led to 23.72 fantasy points. He always brings rushing upside and draws an appealing matchup versus a Blue Bombers secondary that's allowed the second-most passing yards (321.8), along with the third-most yards per pass (8.3) and completions of over 30 yards (26). Given Masoli's ability to create with his legs, it's also worth noting that Winnipeg has surrendered the third-most rushing touchdowns (13), third-highest rush yards per attempt (5.4) and second-most runs of over 20 yards (nine).

Running Back

Andrew Harris, WPG vs. HAM ($8,600): Harris has averaged 25.0 fantasy points over six home games and posted 17.8 fantasy points versus the Tiger-Cats in a Week 8 road matchup, a total partly comprised of a season-high 107 rushing yards. Hamilton is also tied with the Eskimos for most rushing touchdowns surrendered (15) and has yielded the most passing touchdowns in the league (27), a relevant stat in Harris' case considering he's logged at least five receptions in nine contests.

William Powell, OTT at BC ($7,600): Powell has scored between 18.7 and 26.8 fantasy points in the last three games, while the Lions are tied with the Blue Bombers for most rushing touchdowns allowed (13) and have allowed the third-most rushes of more than 20 yards (eight). Powell is averaging 16.0 fantasy points per game over five road contests and has proven capable of handling plenty of volume after toting it over 20 times in two of the last three games.

Tyrell Sutton, MTL vs. EDM ($6,200): Sutton has scored 28.7 and 17.2 fantasy points, respectively, over the last two games, and he sets up as an appealing value play against an Edmonton defense that's bled production to opposing running backs. The Eskimos have allowed the third-most rush yards per game (101.2), are tied with the Tiger-Cats for most rushing touchdowns allowed (15) and have allowed the most rushes of over 20 yards (11). Sutton averaged 7.3 yards per carry on 12 carries versus this same defense in Week 2 and is likely to be leaned on heavily given the Alouettes' problems at quarterback.

Trent Richardson, SSK at TOR ($5,500): Richardson makes for a cost-effective speculative play in his first taste of CFL action. While there's always the chance the Roughriders could opt to limit his carries -- considering he last played in a professional regular-season game in 2014 -- there's also the possibility that Richardson could see some volume with Saskatchewan's lack of overly appealing backfield options. The Argonauts have also given up 12 rushing touchdowns on the season, and it's certainly conceivable that Richardson, who was deemed worthy of an NFL first-round pick several years ago, could thrive against CFL defenses.

Alex Green, HAM at WPG ($5,400): The Tiger-Cats sold high on C.J. Gable, shipping him to the Eskimos last Monday. That leaves Green as the clear-cut lead back after having rattled off 140 yards versus the Lions just two weeks ago in his first start, a performance that yielded 20.5 fantasy points. He now draws a Blue Bombers defense that's allowed 13 rushing touchdowns, 5.4 yards per rush and the second-most runs of over 20 yards (nine), potentially making him the value play of the week at his sub-$6K price.

Wide Receiver/Slotback

Brandon Zylstra, EDM at MTL ($9,200): Zylstra has three 100-yard efforts in the last four contests, leading to fantasy-point hauls of between 29.4 and 31.7. Zylstra has become Mike Reilly's favorite target despite the presence of Adarius Bowman and the recent successful return of Derel Walker, and the Alouettes check in allowing the second-most passing attempts (529), most completions (383) and highest completion percentage (72.4). They're also tied with the Blue Bombers for second-most passing touchdowns allowed (24), while Zylstra is averaging 114.5 receiving yards and 24.0 fantasy points per game in four road contests.

Bryan Burnham, BC vs. OTT ($8,300): Burnham has double-digit fantasy points in six of the last eight contests, a span that includes four games over the 20-mark. He's averaging 17.4 fantasy points over five home contests overall, making him an appealing target against a Redblacks defense that's allowed the third-most passing yards (299.8) per game, along with the most pass attempts (560), second-most completions (368) and most completions of over 30 yards (29). Burnham has mostly been able to thrive despite Jonathon Jennings' frequent struggles behind center, and he should be heavily involved in a game in which the Lions should have to pass a good amount to keep up with what should be a Trevor Harris-led Ottawa passing attack.

Jalen Saunders, HAM at WPG ($7,800): Saunders has taken a major step forward in the last two games, exceeding the century mark in both and scoring 31.8 and 20.1 fantasy points, respectively. Jeremiah Masoli has exceeded expectations since being named starter and clearly has a formidable connection with Saunders, making the latter a prime target versus a Bombers defense that's surrendered the second-most passing yards (321.8), along with the third-most yards per pass (8.3) and completions of over 30 yards (26).

Clarence Denmark, WPG vs. HAM ($5,500): Denmark has shown a nose for the end zone, particularly as of late, as he's crossed the goal line on three occasions in the last three contests. He has double-digit fantasy points in four of the last five games, a span that includes two games with more than 20 fantasy points. Denmark should see plenty of playing time once again with Weston Dressler (upper body) sidelined, leaving him with a golden opportunity against a Tiger-Cats defense that's yielded the most passing yards (345.8), second-highest completion percentage (71.9), highest yards per pass (9.0) and most passing touchdowns (27).

Team Defense

Toronto Argonauts vs. Saskatchewan Roughriders ($4,400): The Argonauts are averaging 13.3 fantasy points over seven home contests, a figure comprised of 26 sacks, seven interceptions, seven fumble recoveries, three defensive touchdowns and two safeties. They also lead the CFL in total sacks (42) and have allowed the second-fewest yards per play (6.0), while the Roughriders allow the third-most sacks (32) in the league, have the third-lowest time of possession (29:36 per game) and third-fewest number of first downs (267).
