DraftKings CFL DFS Picks: Division Final Value Plays

DraftKings CFL DFS Picks: Division Final Value Plays

This article is part of our DraftKings CFL DFS Picks series.

Quarterback

Jeremiah Masoli, HAM at OTT ($10,400): Masoli did it again in last week's Semi-Final game, touching up the Lions for 23.26 fantasy points on the strength of a 259-yard, three-touchdown effort. Those numbers could have been even better had the Tiger-Cats needed to keep their foot on the gas, and Masoli could therefore be primed for a nice bump over that already-impressive production this week. The veteran gunslinger averaged over 10 more fantasy points per game on the road this season -- 28.42, compared to 18.34 at home -- and has actually seen a $1K price drop compared to last week. Masoli had no trouble with the Redblacks pass defense in Week 7, racking up 352 passing yards and a touchdown on his way to 21.08 fantasy points. Ottawa was far from dominant defending the air attack this season overall, as they allowed the third-most passing yards per game (275.2) and fourth-most passing touchdowns (26) during the regular season.

Bo Levi Mitchell, CGY vs. WPG ($9,900): The Stampeders were considerably pass-heavy this season, and Mitchell benefited to the tune of 5,124 yards through the air and a career-high 35 touchdowns. He's certainly in play on the small slate against a Blue Bombers squad that he eviscerated for 452 yards and three touchdowns in Week 11 and another 274 with an additional touchdown pass in Week 20. Winnipeg gave up the second-most completions (415) and pass attempts (631), including the third-most completions of over 20 yards (43). Mitchell generated a robust 8.8 YPA and a league-leading touchdown percentage (6.0) while playing his best football at home, where he posted a 16:5 TD:INT and averaged 295.6 yards per contest.

Running Back

Alex Green, HAM at OTT ($7,300): Green once again corroborated his ability to handle a high volume of touches in the Semi-Final win over the Lions, carrying 17 times and adding a pair of receptions. The workhorse back should see a solid workload again in the Eastern Final versus a Redblacks defense that he's already gained 137 rushing yards on 24 carries against in two regular-season contests. Green also posted four receptions for 79 yards combined in those Week 19 and 20 games, while Ottawa finished the regular season allowing 101.9 rush yards per contest and 5.3 yards per carry. With Green essentially monopolizing running back touches when he's healthy and playing a steady role in the passing game, he's worth paying up for.

William Powell, OTT vs. HAM ($7,100): Powell should come in well-rested after having last taken the field Week 19 versus this same Tiger-Cats squad he'll face Sunday. The veteran back turned in an efficient 87 yards on 21 carries in that contest, and he'll have fresh legs for the high-stakes rematch. Hamilton finished the regular season allowing 5.3 yards per rush and tied with several teams for second-most rushing touchdowns allowed (17). The Ti-Cats also tied with the Eskimos for second-most rushes of over 20 yards surrendered (15), which should give Powell – whose nine runs of that distance were second most in the CFL -- the potential for a big gainer or two.

Wide Receiver/Slotback

Diontae Spencer, OTT vs. HAM ($9,000): Spencer is expensive, but with one of the safer floors in the CFL, he's worth the investment if you decide to pay up. The multi-tasking dynamo generates impressive fantasy production by virtue of his multiple roles, which include both kickoff and punt returns, as well as missed-FG runbacks on occasion. Spencer also finished the regular season with new career highs in receptions (81), receiving yardage (1,007) and receiving touchdowns (seven). Three of those scores came over Weeks 19 and 20 against this same Ti-Cats defense, and Hamilton finished the regular season allowing the third-most passing touchdowns (27) and third-most completions of over 20 yards (43), including the third most of over 30 (31). Spencer racked up seven receptions of greater than the latter distance during the regular season and should be in an excellent position for rewarding production in a game that should feature plenty of opportunities for returns as well.

Bralon Addison, HAM at OTT ($8,600): It's hard to ignore what Addison has done since Brandon Banks went down with a season-ending collarbone injury. The Oregon product posted a 7-103-1 line in Week 21 against the Alouettes and generated a 5-124 tally as an encore versus the Lions in last Sunday's Semi-Final victory. His deep-ball skills should come in handy once more versus a Redblacks defense whose vulnerabilities versus the passing game were detailed in Masoli's entry. While more expensive teammate Luke Tasker ($9,500) is an option as well, Addison could well benefit from a deeper depth of target and continue to be utilized in the fantasy-friendly Banks role in the formidable Hamilton air attack.

Juwan Brescacin, CGY vs. WPG ($4,700): The Redblacks' Dominque Rhymes ($4,000) is also an intriguing punt play in this spot, although with the front-line pass catchers healthy for Ottawa, expectations should be tempered accordingly. Meanwhile, the Stamps passing attack has been a bit hard to figure out for fantasy purposes due to the myriad of injuries the team suffered at the receiver/slotback positions in the latter half of the season. However, as established in Mitchell's entry, Calgary trended heavily toward the pass during the regular season, with the quarterback putting up the second-highest number of attempts (585) of his career. Brescacin faded toward the end of the campaign, but he put up a collective 16-251-1 line in Weeks 14-17, providing a glimpse at his upside. The Blue Bombers' vulnerability to the passing game and downfield targets specifically were outlined in Mitchell's entry, while eight of Brescacin's 35 receptions on the season were for over 30 yards and he boasted an impressive depth of target of 14.7 yards.

Team Defense

Calgary Stampeders vs. Winnipeg Blue Bombers ($4,800): The Stampeders allowed a stingy 18.8 points and 337.6 yards per game at home, and they finished the regular season ranked at or near the top of most major defensive categories. That included sacks (45, most in CFL), 2-and-outs forced (100, second in CFL), turnover +/- ratio (+13, tied for most with Blue Bombers) and turnovers forced (49, tied for most with Blue Bombers). As those numbers indicate, Winnipeg thrived on that side of the ball as well and represents an interesting pivot down at a price of $4.1K. However, the Stamps' home-field advantage in a winner-takes-all environment edges them ahead as the top unit for the week.
