Best NBA Bets Today (Thursday, Jan. 1)
Klay Thompson over 2.5 made threes (+112) vs. Philadelphia 76ers
BetRivers, 4:30 PM CT
Alex Barutha: Klay is not the shooter he used to be, but he's still launching them up. More than anything, this is a playstyle bet. Over the past 10 games, the 76ers have allowed the fourth-most attempts from the right corner (5.4). Over Dallas' past 10, Klay has taken the most attempts on the team from that spot (1.3). Thompson has made 3+ triples in 17 of his 31 appearances this season. When these teams played in mid-December, Thompson fired up seven triples in 18 minutes, though he made just one.
Russell Westbrook over 1.5 made threes (-122) vs. Boston Celtics
BetRivers, 4:37 PM CT
Alex Barutha: Boston has been a good team, but their defensive point of weakness remains the three-point line. Like the Klay prop above, I'm again targeting a specific area of the court, with the Celtics allowing the fifth-most attempts from the right corner (5.3) across the past 10 games. Somehow, and alarmingly, Westbrook has been Sacramento's main shooter from that spot lately, attempting 1.2 right corner triples across the past 10 games. Over the past six games overall, he's hitting 2.8 triples per game at 36.2%. He's also shooting 37.9% from distance at home compared to 33.7% on the road, and the Kings are home tonight.
Nic Claxton under 7.5 rebounds (-110) vs. Houston Rockets
DraftKings, 4:57 PM CT
Alex Barutha: Houston has been unreal on the boards lately, allowing just 35.1 opponent rebounds per 48 minutes. Recently, they held Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley to eight combined rebounds. One game before that, they held Deandre Ayton to two boards. That doesn't make me have a lot of faith in Claxton. He's been solid on the glass this season but is still prone to a weak game and has gone for seven or fewer boards in 12 of his 30 appearances. When these teams played earlier in the season, he had just three rebounds.
