2025 Fantasy Outlook
Letang had nine goals and 30 points in 74 appearances with the Penguins in 2024-25, which made it his first sub-40-point campaign since 2016-17 when he was limited to 41 outings. Given all the time he’s missed over the years, it’s impressive that Letang has gone this long since a campaign in the 30s, but it’s his age, rather than his health, that ultimately ended up breaking the streak. Letang is 38 years old, so it’s not shocking that his production is on the decline, especially given that his role with the power play has diminished ever since Erik Karlsson joined the team in 2023. Letang still recorded 52 PIM, 120 hits and 100 blocks last season, and he’ll probably continue to put up notable numbers in those categories, but it’s unlikely that he’ll find his way back to the 40-point milestone at this stage of his career. Deemed day-to-day
Letang (lower body) is day-to-day and won't participate in Sunday's practice.
ANALYSIS
Letang sustained the injury in Saturday's 6-1 loss to the Rangers. It's unclear if he will be ready to play against Anaheim on Tuesday. If Letang is unavailable, Connor Clifton or Matt Dumba could enter the lineup versus the Ducks. The 38-year-old Letang hasn't earned a point through three games this season while contributing three blocked shots and six hits.

Heading into the 2023-24 campaign, Letang's offensive production was expected to drop after the Penguins added Erik Karlsson to the roster - a move that was expected to knock Letang from his role as the quarterback of the No. 1 power-play unit. While it did significantly limit his power-play numbers -- the offensively-gifted blueliner managed just five points with the man advantage -- he was still able to get over the 50-point threshold for just the second time in his last five seasons. The ability of Letang to stay healthy this past year, playing a full 82-game schedule for the first time in his last 13 seasons, certainly played a role in his ability to notch 10 goals and 41 helpers. Letang may not be a factor with the man advantage any longer but he should still be able to reach similar point totals during the upcoming season.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Deemed untradeable
Letang is believed to be untradeable, Josh Yohe of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Letang's long history of injuries and other health issues, as well as his full no-trade clause and $6.1 million cap hit, make him unattractive in trade talks. The defenseman's play has been in decline, and it certainly doesn't help that he underwent a heart procedure near the end of the regular season, even though it isn't expected to impact his availability for the start of 2025-26. While the Penguins appear interested in moving him, it looks like a deal will be too tough to create while he still has three years on his contract.
