Yahoo DFS Baseball: Monday Playoff Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

As the Astros and Dodgers look to close things out on Monday, the Red Sox-Yankees series is a long way from being over. I'm going against Mike Foltynewicz again after he was shelled in Game 1, while the other two games could be more of a struggle, though I like the home sides.

PITCHER

Rich Hill, LAD at ATL ($44): The Dodgers have yet another lefty to throw on the mound and that's not good news for the Braves, which managed six hits and 11 strikeouts in 15 innings against Clayton Kershaw and Hyun-Jun Ryu in the first two games. Hill may not get the same result, but he's allowed just six hits and one run in his last two starts and he carved Atlanta earlier in the season, allowing three hits over seven innings.

Luis Severino, NYY vs. BOS ($41): Severino quietly handled the Red Sox in three home starts this year, winning all of them with a combined 19.2 innings, three earned runs and 23 strikeouts. The most recent one came on Sept. 19 when he went seven innings. The numbers rarely support going against the Red Sox, but they did have a mediocre .318 wOBA against righties in the last month of the season.

CATCHER

Gary Sanchez, NYY vs. BOS ($17): If you want a chance at a homerun, this is the way to go because Sanchez is the type of batter that gets hot and he cracked two over the wall on Saturday. The hope is that the Yankees knock Nathan Eovaldi out of the game early, though Sanchez's .196 ISO against righty arms is still respectable. Yasmani Grandal ($10) is also worth a look if you need to save money.

FIRST BASE

Yuli Gurriel, HOU at CLE ($14): Gurriel has one of Houston's better rates against Mike Clevinger with a 4-for-9 career mark that includes a double. It helps that Gurriel doesn't strikeout against righties with a 9.9 K% in the last month as that's Clevinger's main route of attack with a 29.3 K% against righty bats this year. Elsewhere, Max Muncy ($19) was a pain for Foltynewicz in the first meeting and could be again.

SECOND BASE

Jose Altuve, HOU at CLE ($18): This isn't a great slate for second basemen, but Altuve will do if you have the money. His .372 wOBA against righties was better than most and you know he's going to get on base at least once in this game (.392 OBP). He's 3-for-10 in his career against Clevinger and is another Houston bat that doesn't strikeout often (14.0 K% against righties).

THIRD BASE

Jose Ramirez, CLE vs. HOU ($20): Ramirez's playoff struggles are well documented, but he's worth taking a chance due to solid 5-for-12 career numbers against Dallas Keuchel with three doubles. That should at least give Ramirez some confidence to go with his .351 wOBA against lefties this year. If you don't want to go against everyone else, Justin Turner ($19) was one of the many bats that had success against Foltynewicz in the first meeting.

SHORTSTOP

Did Gregorius, NYY vs. BOS ($18): Gregorius has some of the better career numbers against Eovaldi with five hits in 15 career at-bats and that includes a homer and triple. Gregorius hasn't been great in the playoffs, but it's hard to ignore his .319 ISO and .423 wOBA against righties at home this season. Eovaldi also struggled somewhat against lefties with a .318 wOBA allowed.

OUTFIELD

Joc Pederson, LAD at ATL ($12): This is building off Pederson's first matchup with Foltynewicz when he went deep in the first inning and then was hit by a pitch. His price dropped and it's hard to pass him up with a .295 ISO and .374 wOBA against righty arms.

Andrew McCutchen, NYY vs. BOS ($14): McCutchen should at least get on base for cheap with a .500 OBP in eight career plate appearances against Eovaldi. It's not a huge number, though he also has a .440 OBP in his last 84 plate appearances against all righty arms.

Melky Cabrera, CLE vs. HOU ($8): Cabrera hasn't done much in the series, but his career numbers against Keuchel stand out with a .400 OBP in 20 plate appearances. Cabrera is also better overall against southpaws with a .176 ISO and .363 wOBA this season. In a desperate situation, the Indians could capitalize on Keuchel's 4.12 xFIP against righty bats.
