MLB DFS Picks: FanDuel Plays and Strategy for Wednesday, September 10

As we hurdle toward the end of the MLB regular season, we have another Wednesday of robust, interesting baseball action. There are 11 games on the DFS docket, with the first pitch at 6:35 p.m. EDT. Here are my MLB DFS lineup recommendations. Good luck Wednesday!

Pitching

Nick Pivetta, SDP vs. CIN ($10,000): The Reds may be 13th in runs scored, but they also benefit from the Great American Ball Park. Wednesday, the Reds have to play in San Diego's pitcher-friendly home, Petco Park, instead. Said park has helped Pivetta post a 2.39 ERA at home, in part because his HR/9 rate at home is 0.9. On top of that, Pivetta has held both lefties and righties under the Mendoza Line.

Blake Snell, LAD vs. COL ($9,100): Though Snell is coming off a rough start, he still has a 3.19 ERA and as per usual avoids home runs. Plus, his home ERA is 1.78, though of course due to his injury absence that is over five starts. The face his sixth home start against the Rockies is a positive indicator, of course. Colorado is 29th in runs scored even with the boost from Coors Field.

Tyler Wells, BAL vs. PIT ($7,600): Want to roll the dice? After a lengthy absence owing to injuries, Wells just made his first MLB start since April 2024. He allowed two runs in five innings against the Padres. San Diego may have a subpar offense, but Pittsburgh has a terrible one. In fact, the Pirates have the worst offense in MLB. This is the way to go to save some salary on your pitcher.

Top Targets

Though Ronald Acuna ($4,000) has gone cold, this could be an opportunity for the one-time MVP to turn it around. In addition to his .968 OPS at home, he has a .939 OPS versus his fellow righties. Jameson Taillon is returning from the IL to start Wednesday. He has a 5.06 ERA on the road, and righties have hit .270 against him.

The path toward his first 30/30 season will be paved at home for Jazz Chisholm ($3,700). That's because he has a .926 OPS at Yankee Stadium in 2025. As a Tigers fan, Jack Flaherty is exasperating, and his 5.64 road ERA is alarming. It's a good thing for recommending Chisholm in this matchup, though!

Bargain Bats

Since 2023, Gleyber Torres ($3,200) has an .879 OPS versus lefties, but this year his OPS is up to .923 against southpaws. This is a roll of a dice on a second baseman who could go yard, which would of course be good for DFS purposes. Carlos Rodon has a 2.86 ERA at home, but a 1.4 HR/9 rate. Since joining the Yankees his HR/9 rate at home is 1.6, so there is always the chance of a homer or two from a righty when he is on the mound in the Bronx.

Hey, a shortstop hitting .265 with 20 doubles has some value, and that's what J.P. Crawford ($2,700) has provided to the Mariners. The lefty has a .740 OPS against righties, and also a .742 OPS at home. Crawford is one of the rare Mariners who is a better hitter in Seattle. While Michael McGreevy has a 2.70 ERA on the road compared to a 6.07 ERA at home, the Cardinals' ballpark isn't exact Coors Field. Lefties have hit .318 against him this season, and that's sufficient for me.

Stacks to Consider

Dodgers vs. Rockies (Kyle Freeland): Mookie Betts ($3,500), Will Smith ($3,300), Andy Pages ($3,100)

Freeland is coming off his best start of the season, and perhaps the best of his career. That dropped his ERA all the way to 5.10. He is no product of Coors, as since 2023 he has a 5.15 ERA on the road. Freeland is a southpaw, and in that same time frame righties have hit .301 against him. Thus, three righties in this stack.

Betts has had a rough campaign, but over the last three weeks he has an .899 OPS. Also, while he's been poor on the road this season, his .744 OPS at home is okay. Not up to Betts' standards, but workable in this matchup and with his recent form. Smith is back from a hand injury, but if he's able to hit as per usual, he's good to go. In addition to the fact he's slugged .474 against lefties over the last three seasons, he has a .975 OPS at home here in 2025. In his sophomore campaign Pages is over 20 homers and 10 stolen bases for the first time. He loves his home park as well, as he has a .937 OPS there.

Blue Jays vs. Astros (Jason Alexander): Daulton Varsho ($3,500), Vladimir Guerrero ($3,400) Addison Barger ($2,900)

Alexander has a 3.19 ERA since joining the Astros, but that is paired with a 4.44 FIP. Additionally, over his last four starts he has a 4.04 ERA and has allowed six home runs. Since Alexander is a righty, and since lefties have hit .282 against him, I have two southpaws in this stack.

Varsho has shown incredible power this season, even if it has been in a remarkably all-or-nothing way. He has a sub-.300 OBP but has hit 18 homers in 54 games. It's all based on facing righties, who he has slugged .693 against. With three hits Tuesday, Guerrero's batting average is up to .304, and his slugging percentage has also gotten up to .500. With the way he's hitting, Vladito is on pace to finish with some impressive numbers, as he has an .885 OPS over the last three weeks. Barger is perhaps revving back up after cooling down, but I don't want to overreact to a week's worth of games. There's a good chance he finishes with 20 homers and 30 doubles this season, and he's slugged .485 versus righties.
