Welcome back to another edition of my FanDuel value plays of the day for Wednesday, September 16. We've got a full slate today with 15 games, which should make for an exciting night. Be sure to check up on any last minute lineup changes and any players that have been battling injuries before you make out your lineups. Let's take a look at some guys who should provide good value for their current price tag.
Starting Pitcher:
Jaime Garcia, $8,600 - Garcia has been phenomenal for the Cardinals this season in 16 starts, going 8-5 with a 2.33 ERA. He's coming off a rough start last Thursday, but should bounce back nicely against a struggling Brewers team that's lost four straight. Garcia is 7-4 in his career against the Brewers with a 2.86 ERA and 71 strikeouts across 91 innings pitched. He's the 8th highest priced pitcher on the list tonight, but could provide top end value.
Catcher:
Buster Posey, $3,400 - Posey is having a monster season for the Giants as he currently holds a .329 average with 18 home runs and 89 RBI. The franchise catcher is coming off a 2-for-4 night with a home run and four RBI, and he's recorded two multi-hit games over his last three contests. Posey will get a juicy matchup tonight against Michael Lorenzen of the Reds who enters with a 5.45 ERA over 20 starts this season. If Posey isn't in the lineup tonight, another solid option behind the plate would be Russell Martin at $2,900.
First Base:
Brandon Belt, $3,200 - Belt will get that same matchup against Lorenzen, and he enters this ball game with a .289 average against right-handers to along with 13 home runs and 50 RBI. The Giants' first baseman is riding a seven game hit-streak which includes three doubles, a triple, and a home run. If you have money to spare, Chris Davis would be an even better option at $4,900. Davis has 19 hits and 15 RBI so far in the month of September.
Second Base:
Robinson Cano, $3,200 - After an awful first half of the season, Cano has bounced back nicely since the All-Star break. He's hit safely in seven of his last nine games and he'll get a nice matchup at home tonight against Jered Weaver of the Angels. Weaver enters with a 4.71 ERA in 22 starts this year, and Cano is batting .294 against right-handed pitching.
Third Base:
Adrian Beltre, $2,700 - Beltre is currently on a five game hitting-streak and he's shown absolutely no signs of slowing down. In those five games, the veteran third baseman has recorded 10 hits, seven runs, two doubles, two home runs and seven RBI. The price tag is more than reasonable, especially for a guy who'll be hitting at home in a very hitter-friendly ballpark.
Shortstop:
Xander Bogaerts, $3,400 - Bogaerts is having a phenomenal season for the Red Sox and he's been hotter than ever over his last six games. The young shortstop has 11 hits and seven runs scored in those contests which has brought his average up to .321 for the year. At a position where offensive production can be very scare, Bogaerts has driven in 72 runs and swiped 10 bags which has made him one of the better all-around players at the position.
Outfield:
Bryce Harper, $5,300 - Harper went 3-for-3 last night with two home runs and three RBI, which gives him three home runs in his last two games. He'll be a popular pick tonight and he comes with an expensive price tag but when Harper gets on a roll like this, it's hard to stay away from him. Harper gets Alec Asher of the Phillies tonight who enters with a 10.67 ERA from the right-side. He could be in for another big night.
J.D. Martinez, $3,400 - I've selected Martinez quite a bit lately and he just continues to come through for me. He's got nine hits in his last five games, with three doubles and three RBI. With 36 home runs and 94 RBI on the season, it's still crazy to me that his price tag is only at $3,400. Martinez gets a great matchup tonight against Ervin Santana who enters with a 4.73 ERA from the right-side.
Brett Gardner, $3,000 - Gardner has become a complete five-tool player over the last two years and currently sits on 16 home runs and 19 stolen bases. The combination of power and speed makes him a solid value play at a fairly low price. Despite a tough matchup tonight against Chris Archer of the Rays, I still like the speedy outfielder who's hit 13 of those 16 home runs against right-handed pitching.
