Welcome to my Daily Plays article for Tuesday. Now that we have a few weeks of baseball under our belts, we have some trends and recent production to help us in constructing our daily lineups. The weather around the nation is still something to consider, so keep an eye out for potential inclement weather. Tuesday has a full slate of games on the schedule, so let's get on to the picks.
Pitcher
Carlos Carrasco, $9,100 - Carrasco is the top pitcher available on Tuesday, and the Indians are one of the top favorites on the board according to Vegas. Most of the top starting pitchers face quality opponents or quality starting pitchers, but Carrasco gets to face the struggling White Sox and their worst starting pitcher, Hector Noesi. Carrasco can pile up the strikeouts as evidenced by his ten strikeout performance in his first start of the year. He also had success versus the White Sox in 2014, compiling a 2.49 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 21 innings. Carrasco got hit by a line drive in his last start and had to leave early, but was cleared to start on Tuesday. Fire up Carrasco as the top pitcher available on Tuesday.
Brett Anderson, $6,800 - If you're looking for a value pitcher to save some cap, then Anderson is your guy. Pitching for the Dodgers gives Anderson and great chance at a victory every time out, and he is facing the offensively challenged Giants and their primarily left-handed lineup. The Giants have lost nine of their past ten games, and are really struggling to score runs. Anderson has pitched decent so far in 2015, with a 3.27 ERA, and is a nice value play on Tuesday night. I also like Taijuan Walker, $6,900, to finally find his form, at home against the strikeout-prone Astros.
Catcher
Derek Norris, $3,000 - Norris not only gets the benefit of hitting in Coors field on Tuesday, but he also mashes left-handed pitching. Norris was hitting .667 versus left handers going into Monday nights game, where he went three for five with two doubles off of another left handed starter. Facing Tyler Matzek on Tuesday, Norris will likely bat second again for the red-hot Padres and is the top value play at catcher and one of the best overall plays on the board.
First Base
Adam Lind, $3,300 - Lind is a nice value play at first base on Tuesday, as he gets to face the lowly Jason Marquis at home. Lind has been batting fourth for the Brewers lately, and loves to hit at home so far in 2015, with a batting average of .450 and a slugging percentage of .750 at Miller Park. Look for Lind to have a big night on Tuesday, so lock him in as the top value play at first base.
Second Base
Logan Forsythe, $2,700 - Forsythe is a sneaky value play at second base and has a nice matchup versus Wade Miley and the Red Sox. Forsythe crushes left handed pitching, batting .333 and slugging .667 so far in 2015 off of southpaws. Forsythe has also been batting fifth in the Rays lineup lately, and has had success in the past versus Miley, with a home run and .375 batting average in eight at-bats. I also recommend Jedd Gyorko, $2,900, who similarly enjoys facing left-handers and is playing in Coors field on Tuesday night.
Third Base
Will Middlebrooks, $3,300 - Middlebrooks continues our theme of targeting opposing hitters in Coors field, especially those with power that bat in the middle of their respective lineups. Middlebrooks batted fifth on Monday, and will likely do so again on Tuesday and comes in on fire. Middlebrooks has an extra-base hit in each of his past four games, including two home runs and seven runs batted in, making him the top value play at third base on Tuesday night.
Shortstop
Wilmer Flores, $2,700 - There are very few options at shortstop on Tuesday, so it might be a good idea to save some cap, and go with a cheap player like Wilmer Flores. Flores has a juicy matchup versus one of the worst pitchers in baseball in Trevor Cahill, and has been hot lately with two home runs in his past three games. Flores has hit much better at home in 2015, with a .294 batting average and all five of his runs batted in coming at Citi Field. I also recommend Clint Barmes, $2,200, who is minimum-salary and facing a left-handed pitcher at Coors Field.
Outfield
Matt Kemp, $4,300 - Kemp is the top play at outfield on Tuesday night and one of the strongest plays overall for the price. Kemp bats third for the Padres, is hitting in Coors Field, and faces a left handed pitcher on Tuesday. Kemp is also on fire right now, compiling six hits, six runs scored, and six runs batted in over his past three games. He also crushes left handed pitching, batting .556 so far in 2015 versus southpaws, prior to his monster Monday night performance. Look for Kemp to keep it rolling on Tuesday night, making him the top play in the outfield. For those who like to "stack" their hitters, Justin Upton, $4,600, is also a strong play for similar reasons. Make sure he is in the Padres starting lineup, however, as he has been nursing an injury lately.
David Peralta, $3,000 - Peralta normally bats clean up versus right handed pitchers, and has a juicy matchup at home versus Nick Martinez. Peralta has two home runs in limited at-bats so far this year, and loves hitting at home as evidenced by his .311 batting average and .524 slugging percentage at home in 2014. Peralta is a nice spot to produce on Tuesday night, making him a tremendous value play in the outfield.
Delmon Young, $2,600 - There are a few cheap options in the outfield on Tuesday night, but Young stands out based on his splits versus left handed pitching, and his past success versus Mark Buehrle. Young has swung the bat well lately, with four hits in his past three games and a .364 batting average so far in 2015 versus left handed pitching. Young has also batted .396 and slugged .660 in his career versus Buehrle, along with four home runs. Young normally bats in the middle of the Orioles lineup versus left handers, making him a sneaky value play on Tuesday night.
For those looking to save cap, Gerardo Parra, $2,200, is minimum-priced and gets to face Jason Marquis at home so he is also worth a look.
