2025 Fantasy Outlook
Considering his QB2 ADP, Mahomes was one of the biggest fantasy busts at the position last season. He finished at a career-low QB12, but that doesn't do justice to the situation. In the first six games, he had a 6:8 TD:INT and averaged less than 14 fantasy points per game, 24th among QBs. He recovered to post a 20:3 TD:INT in his last 10 games, but even in that span he had five games with no more than 16 fantasy points. Only four times all season did he top 20 points. A lack of downfield passing made fantasy life tough for Mahomes. Just 7.1 percent of his attempts traveled beyond 20 yards, 33rd of 36 qualified QBs. Only 26.0 percent even went past 10 yards (34th), and only Tua Tagovailoa threw behind the line of scrimmage at a higher rate than Mahomes (26.9 percent). The result was a career-low 6.3-yard average target depth (34th) and a career-low 6.8 YPA (26th). In fairness, Mahomes' options were limited. Rashee Rice and Hollywood Brown combined for six games played; rookie Xavier Worthy had one of the highest rates in the league for WR screens; and 35-year-old Travis Kelce doesn't get up the seam like he used to. The pass catchers should be better this season, but if the majority of Mahomes' attempts are going to come within five yards of the line of scrimmage, he needs to get much more efficient, i.e., a higher completion rate (67.5, 10th) and more yards per completion (10.0, 31st), or he needs something like 650 attempts. Otherwise, it's hard to see how he gets back in the Top 5 of fantasy QBs. Read Past Outlooks

Four TDs not enough in Week 13
Mahomes completed 23 of 34 passes for 261 yards and four touchdowns in Thursday's 31-28 loss to the Cowboys. He added 30 rushing yards on three carries.
ANALYSIS
It was a vintage performance from Mahomes, who hit Rashee Rice for a pair of TDs while also finding Travis Kelce and Hollywood Brown for scores, but it wasn't quite enough to pull off a win in Dallas. It's the second four-TD performance of the season for Mahomes, and it came in tough circumstances as both his starting tackles, Jawaan Taylor (elbow) and Josh Simmons (wrist), left the game and didn't return. At 6-6, Kansas City's playoff hopes are fading fast, and Mahomes will face a daunting matchup Week 14 to try and keep them alive against the Texans' elite defense.

After ranking as a top-5 fantasy quarterback four of his five years as a starter (twice as No. 1), Mahomes fell to a career-low QB8 last season. He got little help from his wide receivers, who struggled to stretch the field and dropped a league-high 28 passes -- 12.0 percent of catchable targets. A quarter of Mahomes’ attempts were at or behind the line of scrimmage and two-thirds were within 10 yards of the line, both career highs, as his average target depth dropped to a career-low 6.5 yards and his YPA followed suit at 7.0. Mahomes also saw a predictable decrease in red-zone pass attempts after the previous season's NFL-record 123, which led to 10 fewer TD passes inside the 20-yard line. Having perhaps the greatest tight end in NFL history covers a lot of ills, however, and Mahomes will again have Travis Kelce as his favorite target this season. No. 1 WR Rashee Rice, who came on strong late last year, could be suspended, but the team signed fleet-footed Marquise Brown and drafted Xavier Worthy, a first-round pick who ran a 4.21 40 at the Combine -- the fastest since at least 2003. That’s likely a better group than Mahomes had to begin last year, which, coupled with positive regression in red-zone attempts and rushing scores (none last season), has him poised for a return to the top 5 among fantasy quarterbacks.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Down two more offensive linemen
Mahomes and the Chiefs' offense lost starting offensive tackles Josh Simmons and Jawaan Taylor to injuries during Thursday's 31-28 loss to the Cowboys.
ANALYSIS
Simmons is out indefinitely due to a dislocated and fractured wrist, and Taylor is undergoing further tests to determine the severity of his elbow injury. The Chiefs were already without Trey Smith due to high and low ankle sprains, so Mahomes could be without three starting offensive linemen for Kansas City's Week 14 clash against Houston on Sunday, Dec. 7. Mahomes has been sacked 27 times this season, and a thin offensive line wouldn't bode well against a Texans pass rush headlined by Will Anderson and Danielle Hunter, as the two of them have combined for 21.5 sacks this season.
