2025 Fantasy Outlook
St. Louis made a bold move when it offered Broberg a two-year, $9.16 million contract as a restricted free agent despite the defenseman having just 81 regular-season and 20 playoff outings worth of NHL experience spread over three seasons, but the gamble paid off with the 24-year-old blueliner recording eight goals, 29 points, a plus-21 rating, 43 hits and 103 blocks across 68 regular-season appearances while averaging 20:30 of ice time in 2024-25. That’s quite the contrast from his struggles to stay in Edmonton’s lineup, though it’s long been believed that he had this kind of potential, hence his selection as the No. 8 overall pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. He might have further upside too, particularly in terms of offense -- he produced 65 points across 87 career games in the AHL. Don’t count on a big leap, but 30-40 points is possible for 2025-26. Hurt in Saturday's contest

Upper Body
January 10, 2026
Broberg (upper body) won't finish Saturday's game versus the Golden Knights.
ANALYSIS
Broberg was hit by Mark Stone in the first period, and the St. Louis defenseman was ruled out before the intermission. That typically isn't a great sign. Broberg just signed a six-year, $48 million contract extension earlier in the day, but it's quite possible he'll be missing some time in the short term.

Broberg has been a long-term project for the Oilers ever since the team took him eighth overall in the 2019 NHL Draft. Things appeared to be trending in the right direction following the 2022-23 campaign, but the young blueliner saw action in just 12 NHL contests last year. Along the way, the Swede didn't offer much from a fantasy perspective, registering a mere two assists, four hits and six shots while averaging 11:37 of ice time. Still, the Blues were impressed enough with Broberg to sign him to an offer sheet that went unmatched by Edmonton. With his new club, Broberg should be in the mix for more regular appearances -- though he will have to compete with the likes of Scott Perunovich and Pierre-Olivier Joseph for minutes coming out of training camp.
Broberg found himself caught between leagues for much of 2022-23, tallying eight points in 46 NHL games and four points in seven contests with AHL Bakersfield. Barring an injury on the Oilers' blue line in training camp, the 22-year-old defenseman is on the outside looking in for a consistent role heading into 2023-24. A first-round pick from 2019, Broberg may still need a little time in the AHL, but he should be pushing for a full-time NHL gig. The Oilers had a propensity to go with seven-defensemen lineups last year, so that may be his best path to playing time..
Broberg, the No. 8 overall pick in 2019, finally made his NHL debut in 2021-22. He got into 23 games with the Oilers, managing a goal and a pair of assists. Broberg is a solid prospect. He's a high-end skater with at least average offensive abilities, but his decision making with the puck is questionable at times and his physical game is lacking. He should be a regular for the Oilers in 2022-23, but veterans such as Ryan Murray and Slater Koekkoek will be lurking should Broberg get off to a slow start.
Broberg didn't see any action in the NHL in 2019-20 despite making the Oilers' roster for the playoffs. With Skelleftea AIK of the Swedish Hockey League, Broberg put up eight points in 45 games last season, his first in Sweden's top league. The eighth overall pick from 2019 is expected to make the jump to North American hockey in 2020-21, but he'll likely need some time to develop in the minors with AHL Bakersfield. Fantasy managers in dynasty formats will want to keep an eye on the 19-year-old blueliner, but he hasn't shown a lot of offense at any level yet, so proceed with caution.

Yet to discuss extension
DSt. Louis Blues
December 1, 2025
Broberg and the Blues have not started talks on a contract extension, Jeremy Rutherford of The Athletic reports Monday.
ANALYSIS
Broberg is in the second season of his two-year deal, which he signed with the Blues in August of 2024. The two sides have some time to work something out, as the blueliner will be a restricted free agent this offseason. With 10 points in 26 games to open the 2025-26 campaign, the Swede is on track to top the 30-point threshold for the first time in his five-year NHL career.
