Sunday's MLB main slate begins at 1:05 PM Eastern time and features eight games. Below, you'll find which individual pitchers and hitters are primed to provide the best value, as well as the top lineup stacking options in this slate.
Pitching Overview
There's no shortage of big names set to take the mound in this group of matinees. Noah Syndergaard ($10,400) stands out as an obvious pitcher to target against Miami's league-worst offense. Hyun-Jin Ryu ($11,000) should also be worth his hefty valuation in Cincinnati after allowing just three earned runs and posting a 31:1 K:BB in 32 innings over his past four starts.
Some of this slate's other expensive options like Chris Sale ($11,600) and Charlie Morton ($9,700) will have their hands full with tough opponents (the Astros and Yankees, respectively). As a result, look for owners to target more affordable options on the mound if they don't like Syndergaard or Ryu here.
Jerad Eickhoff ($8,200) has looked fantastic this season with a 2.65 ERA, 3.09 FIP and 24.6 percent strikeout rate. The Phillies' right-hander gets a nice opportunity to keep rolling against a Rockies lineup that's been below-average in road offense.
Value Plays/Chalk
In addition to the stacks below, certain individuals stand out as options to target. One such player is Cardinals first baseman Paul Goldschmidt ($3,900), who boasts a wOBA over .400 against lefties ahead of a meeting with Rangers southpaw Drew Smyly at hitter-friendly Globe Life Park in Arlington.
Outfielder Cody Bellinger ($4,800) of the Dodgers is another player set up for success. He has a wOBA well over .500 against righties and will be facing Tanner Roark, who's allowing a .416 wOBA to batters from the left side.
Rookie Blue Jays righty Trent Thornton is surrendering a .360 wOBA to lefty batters, and switch-hitting White Sox third baseman Yoan Moncada ($3,800) is primed to add to those struggles considering his wOBA sits just under .400 from the left side this season.
Stacks
Athletics vs. Gregory Soto (Tigers)
Marcus Semien (SS - $3,500), Matt Chapman (3B - $3,900), Stephen Piscotty (OF - $3,200)
The Athletics maintain a number of right-handed batters capable of capitalizing on this favorable matchup. Semien leads off against lefties, while Chapman and Piscotty both own wOBAs over .400 against them. Soto has surrendered nine earned runs while lasting a combined six innings over his first two starts, so he's as vulnerable a left-handed starter as you'll find. Khris Davis ($3,800) is always a major home run threat and has a wOBA over .400 against lefties, so he'd also be a strong choice if he's able to recover from the hip issue that kept him out of Saturday's lineup.
Brewers vs. Mike Foltynewicz (Braves)
Christian Yelich (OF - $4,900), Mike Moustakas (3B -$3,700), Ryan Braun (OF - $3,400)
Yelich is among the league's most dangerous sluggers and has the platoon advantage here as a left-handed batter. Moustakas also has the platoon advantage and bats clean-up against righties, while Braun also hits in the heart of the order and has done most of his damage this season in righty-on-righty matchups. All three are primed for success against Foltynewicz, who has compiled an 8.02 ERA and 7.94 FIP through four starts this season.
Orioles vs. Shane Bieber (Indians)
Dwight Smith (OF - $3,300), Rio Ruiz (3B - $2,400), Jonathan Villar (2B - $3,000)
While you don't typically think of the Orioles as a team to target, some of their hitters are sneaky value plays in this matchup. Bieber has had trouble getting left-handed hitters out in his young career, surrendering a .370 wOBA to batters from that side and just a .280 mark to those from the right. Smith's wOBA against righties is over .350, and Ruiz isn't far behind. The switch-hitting Villar is also over .350 from the left side, while his mark from the right registers a paltry .200.
