2024 Fantasy Outlook
Schultz forwent the opportunity to be the top tight end on the free-agent market for a second consecutive offseason, instead re-signing with the Texans this March on a three-year, $36 million contract. His first year in Houston was similar statistically to Schultz’s last three campaigns in Dallas; the 6-foot-5, 244-pound tight end caught 59 of 88 targets for 635 yards and five touchdowns in 15 appearances for the Texans, after averaging 66 catches for 667 yards and 5.7 TDs from 2020 to 2022. C.J. Stroud led all qualified quarterbacks in passing yards per game as a rookie, and while Schultz finished second on the team in targets, Stroud’s preference for pushing the ball downfield elevated the Texans’ wide receivers more so than their tight ends and running backs. Nonetheless, Schultz has a long track record of success and a skilled quarterback throwing him the ball, which is a recipe for respectable fantasy production even if he's only the fourth option in Houston's passing game behind WRs Nico Collins, Stefon Diggs and Tank Dell. Four grabs in divisional-round loss
Schultz caught all four of his targets for 63 yards in Saturday's 23-14 divisional-round loss to Kansas City.
ANALYSIS
The veteran tight end was on the other end of C.J. Stroud's longest completion of the day, a 34-yard connection on the Texans' first possession that helped set up a field goal. Schultz suited up for every game in 2024, the first time he'd accomplished that since he was a Cowboy in 2021, but even with the Texans dealing with a number of injuries to their wide receiver room, he didn't see an increase in his production of target volume. He posted a 53-532-2 line on 85 targets over 17 regular-season contests before adding six catches for 86 yards on eight targets over two postseason appearances. Schultz has two years and $22 million left on his current contract, and given the middling impact he made in 2024, it's possible the Texans consider making him a cap casualty this offseason.

Schultz signed a one-year contract with the Texans in free agency after spending his first five NFL seasons in Dallas. After barely seeing the field his first two years, Schultz carved out a substantial role over three subsequent campaigns, drawing at least 89 targets each season while totaling exactly 2,000 yards and 17 touchdowns over that three-year span. He’ll face a downgrade at quarterback, at least short term, with the Texans either starting Davis Mills or second overall pick C.J. Stroud. Cowboys QB Dak Prescott threw 37 TDs in 2021 alone, helping Schultz set career highs with 808 yards and eight touchdowns that year. At no point was Schultz the focal point of the Dallas passing attack, and Houston’s lack of established pass catchers could lead to more targets (but also more defensive attention) for the 6-foot-5 tight end.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Larger target share in Week 4?
Schultz could see more targets from quarterback C.J. Stroud during Sunday's game against the Jaguars due to wide receiver Tank Dell being sidelined due to a chest injury.
ANALYSIS
Schultz saw a season-high five targets during the Texans' Week 3 loss to the Vikings, which he converted into two catches for 11 yards. Schultz's target share this season has dipped due to the arrival of Stefon Diggs and, to a smaller extent, Joe Mixon, but with Dell not playing Sunday, the seven-year tight end should see additional looks from Stroud, especially in the red zone. Across 15 regular-season games with the Texans in 2023, Schultz caught 59 passes on 88 targets for 635 yards and five touchdowns.
