Fantasy MLS: Friday Cheat Sheet

PLAYER RECOMMENDATIONS

GOALKEEPER

Sean Johnson, CHI v. SJE: Chicago may not be dominant this season, but San Jose have been awful on the road, failing to win any of their eight matches, while scoring just eight goals (two of which came at Orlando two weeks ago). Johnson has been very solid since reclaiming his starting job from Matt Lampson, and he offers decent salary savings over top-priced Nick Rimando.

DEFENDER

Brandon Vincent, CHI v. SJE: While teammate Rodrigo Ramos has assists in back-to-back MLS matches, Vincent has been the more prolific crosser, sending in 24 in his last four matches, including 11 in his last two. Vincent also shoots much more than Ramos, and he now faces an Earthquakes defense that really struggles away from Avaya Stadium.

Demar Phillips, RSL v. DCU: Phillips is no guarantee to start, but he offers solid peripheral stats if he can force his way into the first XI, while taking a few shots here and there. And with RSL heavily favored, the clean sheet is certainly in play. If Phillips doesn't get the call, Tony Beltran makes for a serviceable replacement.

MIDFIELDER

Matias Perez Garcia, SJE at CHI: Perez Garcia has taken over corner duties, which gives him a solid floor against a Fire defense that comes in with the fewest points in Major League Soccer. Chicago has shown flashes at points this season, and even if they keep the Earthquakes out, MPG should be able to rack up the peripheral stats.

Javier Morales, RSL v. DCU: Morales' floor isn't quite as high as it consistently was last season thanks to Joao Plata taking on some free-kick duties, but Morales will still send in a decent number of crosses and draw enough fouls to get into double-digit fantasy points.

FORWARD

David Accam, CHI v. SJE: Accam has been excellent during MLS play, as he's scored 59 fantasy points in his last three starts. He takes shots, draws fouls and is on corners, giving him a solid floor and a very good upside against a San Jose side that's allowed 15 goals on the road versus just four at home.

Yura Movsisyan, RSL v. DCU:Joao Plata offers a safer floor, but he's failed to be as consistently good as he was earlier this season. Additionally, Burrito Martinez has scored in two of his last three games, but he's becoming a bit goal dependent for his increased price. That brings us to Movsisyan, who is also goal dependent but has also scored one in each of the last three games while providing decent salary savings over his more exciting teammates.

Fabian Espindola, DCU at RSL: Espindola's role on corners gives him a solid base of fantasy points, though it's possible that's all fantasy owners get out of him against an RSL defense that's allowed just five goals in six home games this season.
