Eight NHL games Sunday, but only three at night. However, the afternoon is packed with hockey action. That's a significant bump in DFS options. As such, I will be looking at the full slate of matchups. You'll have to get your lineups in by 1 p.m. ET, but I think it's worth it. Here are my recommendations.
GOALIE
Jake Oettinger, DAL at ARI ($29): Oettinger has put together two straight stellar starts, pushing him to a 2.35 GAA and .921 save percentage. He now gets to face the Coyotes when they're on the second day of a back-to-back. Oh, and Arizona ranks 31st in goals per game.
GOALIE TO AVOID
Tristan Jarry, PIT vs. CAR ($31): Jarry is enjoying an excellent year, even if he's allowed four goals in three of his last five starts. That being said, this is a tough matchup as the Hurricanes have averaged 3.48 goals and 33.1 shots on net.
CENTER
Mathew Barzal, NYI vs. MON ($18): Barzal is riding a three-game point streak, including two power-play points during this stretch. On the season, he's recorded 10 points with the extra man. The Canadiens have basically locked up having the league's highest GAA at 3.94.
CENTER TO AVOID
Evgeni Malkin, PIT vs. CAR ($25): When Malkin has taken the ice, he's been quite good with 15 points in 15 games. However, the Hurricanes are second in GAA, second in shots on net allowed, and first on the penalty kill. That doesn't bode well for Malkin, who has tallied eight of his 15 points while up a man.
WING
Jason Robertson, DAL at ARI ($23): Robertson posted a super rookie campaign with 45 points over 51 games. His sophomore season has been devoid of a slump with 46 in 40. Robertson has also started 64.7 percent of his shifts in the offensive zone, highest on the Stars. Arizona is in the bottom-three in GAA and will be on the road for the second consecutive night.
Jakub Voracek, CLM vs. BUF ($17): Voracek has always been more of a playmaker than a goal scorer, but this year he's taken it to extremes with 31 assists and only two goals. That being said, a 2.3 shooting percentage is unsustainably low. The Sabres are on the road for the second day of a back-to-back and they rank in the bottom-six in both GAA and shots on net against.
WINGS TO AVOID
Brady Tkachuk, OTT vs. NYR ($19): Tkachuk and the Senators are also skating for the second straight day. He'll also likely be stuck facing Igor Shesterkin in net for the Rangers. The Russian goalie has starred with a 2.05 GAA and .938 save percentage.
Clayton Keller, ARI vs. DAL ($17): As I mentioned earlier, the Coyotes are on a back-to-back. Also, as I mentioned, Oettinger has registered a 2.35 GAA and .921 save percentage. Keller has been a rare bright spot for the Coyotes this season, but he can only do so much.
DEFENSE
Noah Dobson, NYI vs. MON ($18): Dobson has produced eight points in his last 10 games. He's also fired 106 shots on net this season. The Canadiens have allowed 34.4 shots on net per games and of course there's that league-worst 3.94 GAA.
John Klingberg, DAL at ARI ($18): Klingberg has only managed to pot one goal this year, but he's accumulated 25 assists. He's also posted 14 points with the extra man. The Coyotes rank 31st on the penalty kill and then, of course, they are on a back-to-back.
DEFENSE TO AVOID
Kris Letang, PIT vs. CAR ($28): I mentioned the Hurricanes boast the league's best penalty kill. Well, Letang has recorded 17 of his 45 points while up a man. And Frederik Andersen enters with a 2.10 GAA and .927 save percentage.
Tony DeAngelo, CAR at PIT ($22): Though I'm concerned about Jarry in this matchup, I'm not enthused about DeAngelo either. He's power-play reliant, with 15 of his 39 points coming during that situation. The Penguins carry the second-ranked penalty kill, so this is not a game where I expect to see much, if any, power-play success.
